Patti Smith's Gear
Smith can be seen playing a Fender Duo Sonic in this photo.
According to Shure, "[t]he SM58 has been the microphone of choice for Roger Daltrey, Paul McCartney, Henry Rollins, Patti Smith, Alice Cooper, Buddy Guy, Cheap Trick, G. Love, Martina McBride, Megadeth and countless other musicians."
"Though Smith has donated a number of signed items to the auction, the premier auction offering is her 1956 Gibson LG-1 acoustic guitar to be signed by her at the event. A 50-year-old Gibson guitar is a fitting auction item since Smith’s very first guitar was an L-00 Gibson acoustic made in the 1930s. Of her own Gibson she’s said, 'I bought it in 1971, and I still have it. It’s the guitar I write most of my songs on. It’s my most precious guitar.'"
"Kirsch believes he miked the piano with either a pair of Neumann U86s, or one 86 and one 87. 'On the drums we probably had an Electro-Voice 666 on the bass drum, a [Shure] 57 on the snare and 87s overhead. I may have used ribbon mics — Beyer M160s — as overheads; I don't recall. Guitars were 87s on the amp; we had a [Sennheiser] 421 on the bass speaker, plus a direct. For Patti's vocal I used an 87.'"
