In the interview Steve Roden talks about how he is not a fan of more fancy mixers, and that he finds them some what confusing. The reason he has stuck with this one is because its simple and he has had it for 20 years, meaning he knows it very well.

In this image from Steve Roden's interview with A Closer Listen, you can see the Boss Dr.Sample 202, it is also shown less clearly earlier in the interview when talking about recording samples. Roden does not talk explicitly about the DR-202 in the interview but its safe to assume from how its set up that he is just using it to play back samples and possibly apply effects to them (seeing as how the ring-mod is currently active in the image).
