Thundercat

In a performance of "Them Changes" for Pitchfork Nightcap, Thundercat plays his Ibanez TCB1006 signature 6-string bass.

Thundercat is playing a modified Ibanez Artcore bass in the photo; possibly the AGB200. The end of this interview with Bass Player lists a custom Ibanez Artcore 4-string bass as part of his gear.

Thundercat is playing his custom made maple MTD electric bass. In this article Bass Player writes "My MTD cuts like a knife. The body and the neck are all maple, so it’s like a super shank."

In this performance, Thundercat is playing a red Precision Bass with a maple neck into an SWR 750X and Goliath II 4x10. Thundercat has also been seen with a vintage sunburst Precision Bass while playing with Terrace Martin and Robert Glasper.

Thundercat is shown in this video playing an Ibanez double-neck bass while performing live at the Hollywood Bowl in 2016. Song performed is "What a Fool Believes" featuring Michael McDonald of Doobie Brothers fame.

Speaking on the double-neck bass in an interview with Guitar Hero, Thundercat states, "It’s fantastic. It’s got this Pink Floyd-ish tone that’s really open—it rings out because there’s the 6-string on top and an 8-string on the bottom, both with EMGs. I wanted to go for that vintage P-Bass sound, but there’s hardly any lacquer on the wood, and it’s like this open “baaaaang!” It’s pretty funky; it has its own life."
