I like it but...

Build quality is crap, but is the most confiable (maybe only one) headphones to mixing. A can reach quickier results using this and a laptop than my Hs80 and interface in the sutdio.

Vintage sound

Colored preamp. Good for bass an guitars, i dint like it much for vocals.

T

Good pre

I had the black one, without the v3 feature. Its not a real high voltage tube pre, but you can hear the warmth from the lamp in the circuit. If you are on a budget, and dont want the bland sound from the pres in your interface, get this.

Real workhorse

I never had a original 1073, so a can't compare. This puppy should be standard in every studio. It has that console colored cool sound, kinda Daft Punk, Air, Phoenix, french sexy music, etc. Its not transparent by any means, so i dont recomend to classical, neutral side of things. Great vor vintage guitars, and basses. I want buy the stereo version, for synths. But if you wants a stereo clean pre for synth, this is not the one. Get the SSL Vhd 4 channel.

the great river is not too far off from old neve pres but the difference in transformers definitely gives them a different coloration that sounds 'bigger' ??? I've ahd them side by side and there's a difference though tis an apples and apples comparison.

T

hm Cool. Maybe, because of this, we should get both ahah

One of the best Waves products

Amazing for mastering, or for small ajustments on subgroups. The high end is very natural.

T

Nice color

One of the best eq's in the free world. Great on cutting frequencies. love its color for synths and drums.

T

Good eq

Had one. Little noisy, but very efficient on cutting frequencies. good for guitars.

My secret weird weapon

I have one with 3 output mod. Its tricky, it can destroy a sound (in a bad way) very fast. Using together with its FET compressor, you can achieve nice and unique vocals, vintage sounding. Running synths to Di's and to the mixer the sounds comes close to big old consoles. To me, the best aplicattion.

How is this 3 output mod done? Are there added output connections?

Great

I had one. The best entry level mic! Kills others in the same price.

T

My standard mic

Its the most neutral TLM mic. And like others tlm's, its sounds a little on the bland side. I prefer mics with transformers for vocals.

T

For all pourposes

I got one in very bad cosmetics. At first i dont liked it. I could make it work only on cymbals, nothing more. With the time, i started to feel it had a special sauce for vocals. Love on my voice! Good for sources for sound design too.

T

Great

Excelent for guitars and snare. You can achieve great results on vocals, but it needs a really good preamp to make it shine.

T

Modern Classic

Less harsh sounding than Hs80. Great for the price, sometimes vocals dont sound right but you can live with.

T

The best monitor for a not professional room

Its not a flat monitor, but its funny, you can reach a good mix very fast. And unlike HS monitors, it dont causes fatigue to the ear when workin for long time.

T

Classic

I worked few times with a pair, together with Alesis RA100 power. Very fast to finish a good mix. But today a cheap bi-amp reference can be equally nice if you have good ears.

T

The arpeggio is amazing

Loved the arpeggio feature. The keys are crap, worst than Yamaha's psr line.

T

Good, but..

Had one for a while. Good keys response, even they're small. The best aftertouch i used on a keybed. The cons: Needs to run a software to work, knobs and sliders are not acurate, and the pads are total crap. its pricey!

Classic Mackie

I miss mine... I dont care what people say. I know its noisy, but i love its sound. Not harsh at all, it has a cool mojo going on. It makes a vibey 4ch preamp! Eqs are not usable. Lots headroom, compared with todays cheaper mixers.

T

The Avalon

Well mine is the black one. I think is expensive preamp for what it sounds, but is THE sound of todays pop, R&B, rap, hip hop and EDM vocals.

T

Clean sounds!

I used to have one using together with my Steinberg UR28m. Comparing with steinberg pres (D-pre) Mackie was warmer and thicker. Really good!
