Posted in General / I added a wrong submission and i wanna delete it

I added a Gibson P-90 Soapbar pickup when I should have been adding the Dog Ear design. Please delete the Soapbar model from this gear page?

EDIT: Actually, this Black Francis profile shouldn't even exist to begin with. It's a duplicate of the Frank Black profile.

I only just noticed that. My bad.

There are several Lexicon MX200 entries. I'll see if I can merge them all.

Speaking of redundant entries, I found this and it's not a double entry but it's still a useless submission. Maybe someone can delete it?

Haha I hadn't even thought about that possibility. But yes, totally!

I feel bad for suggesting even more tasks to the administrators of this website but I have to admit it's a little hard to find a faq in this place. I was expecting to find it in the footer but it wasn't there. If people keep adding themselves as pro artists because they don't know any better, perhaps this problem can be circumvented by taking this excerpt from the faq...

If you’re not a pro artist technically there’s nothing stopping you from adding yourself, but we don’t encourage it. If you don’t have a big fan base then nobody will really see your pro artist page anyhow, so it’ll sort of just be lost in the ether.

...and paste that in with the tips and suggestions section of the "Add A New Artist/Band/Group" page? I guess you can't expect the userbase to be modest enough not to add themselves unless it's specifically mentioned somewhere haha.

I'm really sorry to hear you're widowed. Okay I'll give the admins a go, thanks! Oh, maybe you could tell me what's the best way to get their attention? Turns out Mickey Melchiondo (aka Dean Ween) has two band pages so I'll have to hit them up about that as well. And it looks like it's the same thing for Aaron Freeman (aka Gene Ween). What a mess. Maybe if the artist forms on this site had another optional textbox where users fill in alternative names for an artist? That way if someone looks up Dean Ween, the server could link that back to back Mickey Melchiondo and throw that in with the results. Hopefully that keeps people from making duplicate pages.

Sounds nice. I mean, at least all the drama led up to you getting married and having a son. Not to mention the band you're in currently sounds more fun anyway. Last time I was in a band was 2007 I think and we all sucked ass but at least it was fun haha. Now that I've played guitar for about 3 years, I think I may want to try playing in a band again. And I will have to give your music a listen sometime cause I think it'll be rad.

Just trying to help but I guess you didn't need my advice. Good luck and all that.

Ah, looks like this page explains how the gearIQ points are distributed. That explains my extra 15 points. Mystery solved.

I find the easiest way to get more points is by steering away from the big names and go for an artist that's not as well known. Maybe bands that are moderately successful but haven't gone mainstream? There appears to be a lot of gear missing from these types of pages. Also, if you don't know where to start. Look for youtube videos of your chosen musician containing gear and try to find interviews that discuss their tools of trade. Even wikipedia can be useful sometimes but their info can be faulty or incomplete. Always research where their information is coming from and try your hands on the original documentation. When you're absolutely sure it's correct, you can offer that as your source.

Hmm, I find myself wondering how I ended up with my current 525 points. I got my first 100 from adding a profile picture and so far I've come up with 80 submissions. That's 100 + 400. Where did I get the remaining 25 points?

Oh shit that's terrible! To think it all went to court and she even ended up ruining your carreer. And I thought your drummer was a piece of shit. I hope that was the last of your band drama.

Ah great, that sounds even better! By the way, if I happen to encounter more double entries, is it okay if I offer them for merging? I have no idea how much work goes into the process and if it's even doable/efficient in some cases. Maybe I just get too neurotic about these things?

This is going to sound like a weird request, especially since I didn't add this piece of gear myself but please bear with me. It's about a Dunlop plectrum I assigned to Kim Deal which no other musicians appear to be using: https://equipboard.com/items/dunlop-88-tortex

That's because all the other musicians seem to be using the plectrum over here: https://equipboard.com/items/dunlop-tortex-standard-guitar-picks-0-88mm

Could someone switch out Kim Deal's plectrum for the latter and remove the other plectrum entirely? It doesn't look like anybody is going to miss it and it helps tidy up a little.

Hahaha way to outplay the main act. I would love to see those pictures. Were you in a signed band at the time?

You were opening up for these guys? That's crazy! Small world. Is it common for D&D Stoners to listen to Rainbow or something? That's pretty funny, I never heard of that stereotype before. Your drummer was a real piece of shit by the way haha but at least it makes for great stories.

This seems like the right place to request a name change.

The other day I added a new musician who goes by the pseudonym "Rainbow". I ran into a problem because that name was already taken by a band with the same name. As a solution I decided to write "Rainbow (The Birthday Massacre)", with his band's name in paranthesis. This seemed like a good solution up until today when I found out "Michael Rainbow" is the full pseudonym that nobody ever seems to be using. If someone could change that for me I would be very grateful.

I found issues with another product. This time it's the Ernie Ball Stereo 25K Ohm Volume Pedal.

https://equipboard.com/items/ernie-ball-stereo-25k-ohm-volume-pedal

The image provided is an Ernie Ball 25K Ohm Volume pedal for sure, but it's not Stereo. The stereo version is supposed to have 2 jack sockets on each side with the Ernie Ball logo dead center. Here's a better picture.

Posted in General / Need advice on picking up a new guitar

I remember I did quite some extensive research 3 years ago when I decided I wanted to pick up a guitar and learn how to play it so I guess I can help you. I'd say picking a guitar comes down to three criteria: Utility, sound and looks.

Utility should be easy to answer: What do you plan to do with the guitar? Is it just for practice? What kind of songs do you plan on practicing? Do you plan to perform live with it? You'll have to decide whether you want to play accoustic or electric for instance. Comfortability is also really important. Some guitars are heavier than others and some shapes can be uncomfortable. You'll have to try a few models before you'll know. It's worth noting that glued necks will be more fragile than through-necks or bolt-on necks and some guitars may be harder to maintain than others. For accoustic guitars it's also worth considering to have a cut-out model or to go with an electro-accoustic guitar. Keep in mind that for electric guitars you will need an additional amplifier, wires and optional effect pedals.

When deciding on sound, it helps to know guitarists with a signature sound that you love. Look into that and try to define it. Keep that in mind when you look into the components of your new guitar. A great deal of a guitar's sound relies on wood types and the shape of the body, which can be solid or hollow. Different strings have different sounds and guitar bridges will affect how long a note sustains whenever a string is plucked. For electric guitars your choice of pickups will be very important. Single Coils will give you a bright clear sound while Humbuckers are more rich and in your face. These are the most common pickups and their positions on the guitar will also affect your sound. The availability of tone knobs on your guitar will help you adjust the sound to your liking. It's worth noting that given the right effect pedals, Single Coils can sound like Humbuckers but it doesn't work vice versa. Because of their clarity, Single Coils are also much more honest and better to practice on.

And if you're still unable to decide you can always pick a guitar based on looks. This may sound ridiculous, but it's pretty sound logic: If you love how a guitar looks, you're probably going to have a lot of fun playing it. That beings said, you strike me as a Single Coil kind of person so you may want to look into Stratocaster or Telecaster models. These were officially made by Fender but you may want to look into an affordable off-brand model. A good starter that comes with Humbuckers would be the Les Paul model, originally made by Gibson. Again, it's better to find an off-brand version.

Hope that helps and good luck finding your guitar!

Ah, so only mods and admins can change out the images, I was wondering why I couldn't change them myself! In that case, this seems like a good place to request an image update for the Hammond C3. It's an absolute eyesore!
