About
ANTEMASQUE is an American indie rock band known for their energetic and raw sound, emerging from the musical collaboration of Cedric Bixler-Zavala (vocals) and Omar Rodríguez-López (guitar), both former members of the influential bands At the Drive-In and The Mars Volta. The group was formed in 2014 and initially included Dave Elitch (drums) and Flea (bass) from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, although Flea was later replaced by Marfred Rodríguez-López (bass). ANTEMASQUE's music blends elements of indie rock with hints of punk and progressive rock, creating a sound that is both frenetic and melodic.
How to Sound Like ANTEMASQUE
To emulate ANTEMASQUE's vibrant and aggressive sonic character, focus on achieving a sound that balances raw energy with melodic precision. The guitar work of Omar Rodríguez-López often features gritty, overdriven tones which can be crafted using guitars like the Squier Super-Sonic, paired with distortion effects that provide a sharp edge. The bass, pivotal to their driving sound, can be emulated using a Music Man Stingray, which delivers punchy, articulate low-end, while the drums maintain a dynamic and powerful presence, crucial for capturing the band's intense energy. Employing fuzz effects, such as an Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi, can add an additional layer of texture to both guitar and bass, creating a cohesive and robust soundscape.
