About
Ozric Tentacles is an English band renowned for their eclectic fusion of psychedelic rock, space rock, and electronic music. Originating in Somerset in 1983, the group was founded by Ed Wynne (guitar), Nick Van Gelder (drums), Joie Hinton (keyboards), Roly Wynne (bass), and Gavin Griffiths (guitar). Over the years, the lineup has evolved, yet Ed Wynne remains a constant driving force. The band is celebrated for their instrumental prowess and dynamic live performances, blending elements of jazz fusion, progressive rock, and neo-psychedelic styles to create a sound that bridges the cosmic rock of the '70s with the modern festival scene.
How to Sound Like Ozric Tentacles
The sound of Ozric Tentacles is a vibrant tapestry of lush, kaleidoscopic textures and hypnotic grooves, characterized by their adept use of synthesizers and electric guitars. Their music often features a dreamy, ambient quality, achieved through layers of intricate, melodic guitar lines and swirling synths. Ed Wynne's use of the Ibanez 2700 Artist Custom and Ibanez JEM777V guitars, paired with synthesizers like the Novation Supernova 2, contributes to their rich, expansive soundscapes. The interplay of rhythmic precision and improvisational freedom allows their music to flow seamlessly, creating an immersive and otherworldly auditory experience.
