1967 Gibson-made Epiphone FT-79 Texan Slope Dreadnought Guitar

jakewildwood.blogspot.com

This 1967 Epiphone FT-79 Texan, produced by Gibson, is a standout with its long scale length adding punch and clarity to its sound, especially in the treble and mids. While it boasts a charming resemblance to the famed J-45, it offers a unique "snap and pop" that suits bluegrass flatpicking. However, its narrow nut width and slim neck profile might not appeal to fingerpickers looking for more space. Despite some repairs and finish wear, it plays exceptionally well post-restoration. Overall, it's a rock-n-roll gem with a vintage vibe, though the neck may not suit everyone.

Catch of the Day: 1963 Epiphone FT-79 Texan - Fretboard Journal

fretboardjournal.com

The 1963 Epiphone FT-79 Texan stands out as a quintessential vintage acoustic guitar with its long scale and Gibson-esque design, offering strong bass response and a rich, woody tone. Praised for its volume and tonal quality, it remains a favorite among musicians, evidenced by Paul McCartney's use on "Yesterday." While its $4600 price tag reflects its historical significance and sound quality, some may find this steep for a vintage model. Overall, this Texan is celebrated as one of the finest-sounding Gibson flat tops, making it a worthy investment for collectors and serious players.

This guitar is a great large body acoustic for playing live and recording. It's sound is warm and well defined, but not a classic singer-songwriter guitar, like a Martin. It has a bright sound and a very easy to play thin neck. Highly recommended.
