Mad Professor Amplification is a Finnish boutique effects pedal and amplifier company founded in 2002 by Harri Koski and Jukka Mönkkönen, based in Tampere, Finland. The company's pedal circuits were originally designed by Swedish electronics designer Björn Juhl, known for his acclaimed BJFE hand-built pedals. Koski, who had been distributing Juhl's hand-made pedals, partnered with him to create a company that could produce Juhl's designs at a larger scale while maintaining high build quality. The arrangement allowed Juhl to continue his small-batch BJFE work while Mad Professor brought his circuits to a wider audience.
Mad Professor is best known for its characterful mid-gain overdrive pedals, with the Sweet Honey Overdrive and Royal Blue Overdrive among its most popular models. The Deep Blue Delay, Snow White Auto Wah, Tiny Orange Phaser, Little Green Wonder, Simble, and Loud'n Proud are also well-regarded in the pedal community. The company produces both factory-built pedals and a hand-wired series assembled at their Tampere workshop, and has also manufactured tube amplifiers such as the MP101. Blues guitarist Matt Schofield is among the brand's most prominent endorsers, with signature versions of the Supreme and Dual Blue Delay bearing his name.
Mad Professor has 48 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Overdrive Effects Pedals, Phaser Effects Pedals, and Delay Effects Pedals. Their gear is featured by 81 artists, with the strongest followings in Rock, Pop, and Blues. Notable users include Matt Schofield, Anssi Kela, and Konrad Schmidt. Mad Professor's catalog spans the full price spectrum — from entry-level options to high-end flagships.
