Paul Cochrane is a guitar pedal builder and musician based in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, known for designing and hand-building some of the most sought-after overdrive pedals in the guitar world. He introduced the Tim overdrive in 2004, followed by its smaller sibling the Timmy — a stripped-down version without the send/return loop and boost section of the original. Both pedals earned a devoted following among professional guitarists for their transparent overdrive character and ability to preserve an amplifier's natural tone. The Timmy went through several iterations, including the V2 (which added an external clipping switch) and the V3 (which replaced the clipping switch with a boost switch). Nashville players and session musicians, including Kenny Greenberg, Lyle Workman, and Brad Whitford, are among those known to use his pedals.

Cochrane operates with an unusually low profile for a builder of his stature — he has no official website, rarely gives interviews, and builds all pedals by hand, which historically resulted in long wait lists. He licensed the Timmy design to MXR (Dunlop), allowing them to produce a mass-market mini version while maintaining his approval over the circuit. Beyond the Tim and Timmy, Cochrane released the Zefram, a harmonic overdrive with active mid-frequency control, active bass, passive treble, a three-position clipping switch, and an internal voltage converter — a significant departure from the transparent voicing of his earlier designs. His pedals are distributed exclusively through Humbucker Music.
