Looked it up!!! Irn Bru tastes of barely sugars, bubblegum, and a hint of ginger. I'm not an energy drinks guy really.

My first foray into the world of tube amplification, in the form of a second hand laney vc15. Yes, it's not exactly an AC30 (So don't say a word Jimmy!), but it's the first rung on the ladder, to decent tube amps. My dream amp setup (Apart from the complicated one I posted on a previous thread, and that is in my gearporn), would be an a-b switch into three amps, a rockerverb set to insane crunch, an or100 adding a bit of light drive, and a clean Mesa Boogie thing of some sort.
Don't even get me started on pedals; I made a list of my dream board once, and it was around 50ish pedals big, with obvious implications.
And on the subject of pedals I am replacing my overdrive, and my "Modulation Spot Unit", so I'll see what's cheap, and good-(I like the sweet baby, by Joyo, or for a bit more money the soul food. I'm a klonny kind of guy). In terms of modulation, I'll probably get a flange, a phase or a vibe, and one that's not too much, so phase 90, ph3, bf2, (Insert BOSS modulation unit that doesn't sound like total crap). Elsewhere in the future I'm eyeing up, an expression pedal for my pitchfork (Is it possible to build a device that can share one expression pedal between many pedals?), a movall scorpion suhr riot thing, movall octopuzz, mxr bluebox, zvex fuzz factory, super pulsar, ring thing, talking machine, and woolly mammoth seven.
Unfortunately for us guitarists money, doesn't grow on trees.

Yeah I definitely prefer phase to flange any day of the week. I'm torn between phase 90, or a boss ph3 (maybe a bf3). See how much I can trade a bunch if crap I have in for

Definitely. Make a SoundCloud for it as well, what songs are you thinking of?

Crisis averted! After much youtube playlist searching I found them again. The soulbreaker company was the band I was reffering to, and sow the roses.

A few weeks ago, I found quite a good garage band, and then carelessly forgot what they were called. They aren't very famous, don't speak English, and I think they have a song about reaping/sowing. Anyone know anything?

Maybe that's what it is? The remains of the working class families George Osborne disintegrates as Saturday night entertainment? Hey why can't George Osborne be a bus driver?
Also what about that coke life stuff? It tastes of the froth from the top of normal coke
10yover 10 years ago
I don't dislike it, but then I don't love it. It's just very odd.
10yover 10 years ago
Oh and some electronic styled stuff as well. Not like techno, or house, or club, etc., but more of the CHVRCHES style stuff. Skrillex still needs to get a haircut, and rethink his career (I never mixing flatulence, with a tr808 could make so much money)
10yover 10 years ago
For me I would definitely say that it's emo/pop punk stuff, such as FOB, and P!ATD, that I think is a bit embarrassing. Even scarier I found myself humming that Bieber idiots latest song. I'm thinking about getting urgent medical help/therapy.

They're both around 40. They say there isn't particularly any rhythm or beat going on, it's just noise

What do you think Irn Bru even tastes of (Besides "GURDERS!")?
10yover 10 years ago
The other day I was twiddling around, just riffing a bit, not with any purposeful intent, other than to pass some time in a nice sounding way, when I came upon this, in my opinion, quite good riff. To cut a long story short I wrote a song around it, and then left it for a bit.
A few days later, I reluctantly sat down to do my maths homework, and when I do I always put on some tunes to keep me breathing, so I settled on a fairly good classic hard rock playlist, and thought nothing of it, however ten minutes later a song came on, and I thought; hey that's my riff!!!
Turns out I accidentally wrote Whole Lotta Love.
And earlier this year the BBC named Whole Lotta Love the best riff of all time, so I guess I'm some kind of genius?
Also whole lotta love, is good but it's not the best, what would you say the best riff of all time is?

I personally prefer the white stripes, and his solo stuff. Jack White is, was, and always will be one of my favourite musicians. I really love the trashy-garage-riffy bluesy-punky rock (That's also quite hard to define) he produces. My parents don't...

I was brought up on the smiths, and it seems to be the total opposite here. If you like the smiths you are stereotyped as pretentious, and middle class. I love the smiths music, but frankly Morrisey's a massive git, and Johnny Marr isn't far off. I was just wondering the other day; do you American's have Irn Bru?

Dead Weather VS Raconteurs VS White Stripes VS Solo VS Upholsterers VS The Go
What do you prefer?

I have been combining my 1 octave up setting on my pitchfork with my Big Muff TW, but it stills doesn't sound the same. Should I switch the order around in my signal chain? I'm going Fuzz>Pitchfork

I was thinking the other day about this. Personally I have a soft spot for Panic At The Disco, which I am slightly embarrassed about. What about you?

(Mary Whitehouse Experience History Today reference) look it up, it's just beautiful

This Black Friday, for those who are serious about rocking...
See you, that's like your best rig ever that is. That's like your five star arena tour setup. You love it. You think it has better tone than Dukeuke.

The Keavney I know is a Charlie. If you've got the cash the new chase bliss flanger seems quite nice, I quite like the versatility of the paul gilbert one from Ibanez. I know Cobain used an EHX polychorus, but I'm not sure if it was the PC flange on curmudgeon.
10yover 10 years ago
True, fuzzes are pretty much as basic as it gets, but not everybody is prepared to just buy a soldering iron, and just build them, and you get quality assurance (ish) on branded pedals. Personally I prefer heavier fuzzes, so I built myself a fuzz factory, and at some point I'd like to build a woolly mammoth, but their are some more interesting muffs... I have the tone wicker, and the wicker switch is very useful, and opens up new doors (I know the tone switch is a pile of useless crap, but...), and apparently the deluxe muff has a very nice mids circuit, which sounds quite nice in my opinion,
10yover 10 years ago
Ok, personally I'd run Tuner>Wah>Fuzz>Overdrive>Boost>Delay>Tremolo>Chorus
I'm not one hundred percent sure why old jimmy has run fuzz before wah, but I'm sure that there's some logic to it.
You want the tuner to get a signal as clean as possible, for accuracy purposes, then the wah is a filter, and lots of the stuff it does to the frequencies work better before fuzz in my opinion, so you'd put fuzz after. Then overdrive, because you want your overdrive cleaner than your fuzz, then your boost for the same reason. Then delay, then tremolo, and chorus last, because you want that to be very clean, for optimum sound quality, but if you want to use your chorus a bit dirtier you could put it before the boost, for a better grunge-chorus tone
10yover 10 years ago
I'm not suggesting that he'd run that many pedals, it's just a diagram to show the order of all the categories I could think of, and if you did have that many pedals you'd just buy a gigrigesque looper situation
10yover 10 years ago
I didn't realise that their was a vexter mastotron, and 2nd hand editions, are still £35 more than standard muff pis
10yover 10 years ago
Yeah, It would have to be a fuzz, but if you want that tone, for a cheaper price, than the Mastodon, I'd buy a Muff, and turn down the tone
10yover 10 years ago
Hmmm, it's funny that growing up, and watching the original trilogy a considerable amount, The Empire Strikes Back, always bored me; I preferred return of the jedi, but everyone seems to love it!
10yover 10 years ago
I would go...
Volume Pedal>Wah>Compressor>EQ>Dynamic Filter>Acoustic Simulator>Envelope Filter>Step Filter>Vocal Filter>Auto Wah>Gnarly Fuzz>Octave Fuzz>Heavy Fuzz>Vintage Fuzz>Bit Reducer>Metal Distortion>Distortion>Heavy ODs>Synth Sims>Lighter ODs>Transparent ODs>Gain Boost>Volume Boost>Frequency Boost>Digital Delay>Analog Delay>Harmoniser>Pitch Shifter>Octaver>SIMULATION>Ring Mod>Flange>Vibrato>Phaser>Tremolo>Chorus>Reverb

I can't imagine them being your kind of music. I just had a listen, and they sound a lot like REM, on some songs, but with a little more poppiness, and a few synthy bits

Hey all, I am hoping to buy my first tubey style amp soon (A laney vc15 combo), however I am not well versed in the whole tube/valve business. What's considered a good tube, or a bad tube, how often should I change them, is there any maintenance I would need to perform on them, and is there an affordable (I don't really know the prices of decent tubes) upgrade from the stock tubes, because I can't imagine they're high quality?

On the subject of films, I can't work out whether I am scared, or excited for the new Star Wars; I really want them to be good, but I have a horrible feeling about them. But I guess it'll be hard for them to be top "the phantom menace", or "The clone Wars", so I don't want to raise my expectations

Hey all, Just thought I'd start this thread so people could discuss the best, most effective touring soloutions, and the gear they'd use, but like most of my threads (With the exception of my sting one) it will probably wither, and die.
Personally, as a guitar enthusiast I spend every spare second daydreaming, about the rig I'd put together in certain situations, and I've settled on this pedal board, with signal going from top to bottom, as guitar to amp:
- COMP-keeley compressor pro
- WAH-CAE wah
- EQ-MXR Ten Band
- FILTER-Stereo Talking Machine
- GNARLY FUZZ-Fuzz Factory
- MUFF-Muffuletta
- UP BOX-Tycobrahe Octavia
- DOWN BOX-MXR Submachine
- DISTORTION-Suhr Riot
- OVERDRIVE-Palisades
- DIGITAL DELAY-Timefactor or Timeline
- ANALOG DELAY-Bellwether
- RING MOD-Ring Thing
- OCTAVE-Pitch Factor
- FLANGER-Airplane Flanger
- VIBRATO-Korg Nuvibe
- PHASER-Empress Phaser
- TREMOLO-Super Pulsar
- CHORUS-warped vinyl
- REVERB-Big Sky

I've been hearing recently that no one likes chorus, phaser, and especially flange, so do you think it's pretty much gone, until of course some pillock like Justin Bieber will bring it back in.
Why do people hate it so much anyway?
10yover 10 years ago
Well, until yesterday I used to hate SGs, because I just can't get along with the neck, and the scale length, but I was down at the guitar shop, and I played this really great vintage branded SG, with a maestro vibrola knock off.
http://www.richtonemusic.co.uk/products/vintage_vs6_graham_oliver_signature_guitar-vintvs6go.asp
It was just really nice, and yes it still has the annoying scale length, but it's much more playable, though the next guitar I would buy would have to be a HH guitar, with a Floyd, and 7 strings, because my lovely jazzmaster just doesn't suit the kind of music I write(https://soundcloud.com/josiah-luck gives you a little taste. Both songs are still being developed, and neither are perfect), and when playing with a band the p90s hum LIKE NOTHING YOU'VE EVER HEARD!!!
I definitely prefer the necks, feel, and scale length of Fender guitars (and funnily enough I don't mind so-called "Shred Guitars" provided they have a bit of neck with their fretboard), and I enjoy their versatility, but to be honest Gibson make the best looking mainstream guitars, second only to PRS, but then of course PRS guitars look nice, but have no soul, so I guess there'll always be a compromise somewhere

Hey all, Taking inspiration from Joel Korte, and other inventor/pedal designers like him I've realised I would really like to get into more complex pedal building, like digital pedal programming etc. Is there a way I could get into making a digital pedals, and learn how to program them/build them.
Also do you think we've found all the effects there is to find now, and every effect will pretty much be a variation on a previously discovered model?
10yover 10 years ago
Do you have a brother? You like a bit like one of my friends who is also a Keavney.
10yover 10 years ago
I'm loving the new chase bliss flanger (Spectre, I think), and I love the functionality of the Ibanez Paul Gilbert model, but I don't like flange enough to spend that kind of money on it. If my band ever were to tour I would get my hands on probably a Mobius/Modfactor, and program in all the presets I'd need to use in stead of dancing all over, two choruses, two phasers, two flanger buttons, fiddling with presets on a super pulsar, vibe with exp. control, ring mod, etc. (And all of those pedals would work out much more expensive than an upmarket modulation multi-effect
