I thought this thread was a joke, man I can't believe it! It's his own fault I guess, fags, drugs, and alcohol to the max.

Right then lads...Anybody got any experience with a Roland JC? I thought I should brush up on the subject matter the other today, when during a bout of vicious procrastination where instead of doing ratio, I was running through the specs of all the amps I could recall, and the Roland JC spot in my head was empty.

Synth discussion thread

I played this roland modularish poly, where you attach a module that's a full synth (LFO, VCO, etc) to a special keyboard thing, and each "module" emulates a certain Roland synth. The one I played was supposedly an emulation of a Juno 106. For the price it was awesome, but the built in speaker was really quiet. If you were to buy one you'd need some decent speakers as well.

Same as the giant thread, but not based on experiences, though it can be. Anything can be hon here about anything synthy; questions, discussions, etc.

A giant thread about...SYNTHS

Continuing Jim's giant thread theme let's discuss synths/keyboards/electric pianos/VSTS/Modular banter/whatever really.

Personally I really love moogs, though I quite like roland junos, but I'm not very experienced in the field, and I probably sound like a massive noob.

Next craze

OK, so I was thinking that everything in vogue comes back around eventually, like folk a couple of years ago with all that Mumford crap. So what's next to be the new trend...

I reckon metal/heavy rock will come back into pop for a bit, or at least some fake grunge stuff.

I actually can't wait for a synthy/new wave revival thing; The human league, kraftwerk, Depeche mode, new order, that kind of thing. I'm a massive fan of that kind of experimental/synth driven, not really crap electronic music, and of course synths, oh synths, where to begin. I don't know, but my faves are either moogs, or roland junos. Retrosound on youtube has a really cool synth channel.

Funniest comedy series

It's the Christmas hols, and I've already watched every episode of "a channel 4 sitcom I'm not allowed to watch, and so won't name", that was very funny, but sadly very short. Quick I need something quite funny, that's on YT to spam on, or else I'll have to talk to my family! I tried bad education, and it's really crap.

I'm not that antisocial though. My legendary Grandad convinced my Mum to just let me noodle while we were all sat in the front room after Christmas dinner, though I paid for it by having to play some atrocious Christmas songs, and my bands entire catalogue to our guests.

Gear questions

I thought I knew my gear back to front, but...

a, What effects should I put in my FX loop

b, Why do I need to know my speaker impedance (Anything to do with speaker impedance)

c, What can I do with the MIDI ports on my x4 delay

d, What difference will it make if my FX loop has 10dbu, or 0dbu buffer, or bypass.

a giant thread about OD, Distortion and Fuzz!

Yes Jim, this is my kind of thread.

OD: I have a behringer to100, that is a pile of utter bull, so I'm gonna trade that in for £10, at a music store, along with my line 6 amp, and chorus pedal. I plan on buying a movall rocket train, as I need a good comp, and a good OD, and with limited board space, it's a bit of a no brainer. I need an OD on my board for when I'm practising with my band, or somewhere without my amp, but the gain channel on my Laney VC15 is quite nice.

My favourite OD is either the EQD dunes/palisades, or the rockbox boiling point, though outside of TS camp I love transparent ODs like the keeley oxblood, klons (Gold master race), etc. I never really got into OCD style stuff, but fulltone do make awesome drives; you can't argue with the plimsoul, the OCD, and the fulldrive under their belt. There's just so many good ODs, I could go on for days.

DS: Well, I own a muff, which is technically a DS, though I treat it like a fuzz.

I'm a suhr riot DS fellow, I don't own one, but it's my kind of style. I'm not too bothrered about plexi stuff, and nearly every "Metal DS" is a pile of crap, apart from the empress heavy, and a few others.

The movall scorpion riot clone is a nice little thing for the price so I may invest in that at some point.

FUZZ: Well, I own a muff, which is technically a DS, though I treat it like a fuzz.

Personally my favourite fuzz is the zvex FF stuff, and I'm currently trying to build one, but is a long slow process that lasts for an hour every Tuesday evening, in an electronics class full of horny y11 druggies.

I'm not a fan of fuzz faces, and I don't care much for vintage tonebenderesque stuff, as I'm really a muff, or madness guy, but I adore octave fuzz; the tycobrahe Octavia is a beautifully ugly amazing pedal, and there are many others that are amazing, though the timeless combination of POG, and muff still beats all. Well actually the stuff I do with a muff, and pitchfork is quite op.

There are, again, unmentionable amounts of things to say about fuzz.

a giant thread about... AMPS!

For modulation all I'd really use is phase, flange, chorus, and tremolo w/ tap tempo. The thing is that I really like having different modes of phase, and flange, and then the ability to toggle through them with a footswitch, because if I'm playing live then I can't, and don't really like to bend over, and fiddle. The phase 100 is pretty sick, but the best phasers around are the empress phaser, or the walrus audio vanguard. Waveform control is one thing, but having multiple is even cooler in my opinion, though nowhere near as usable. I really like the controls on the boss stuff, momentary could have some nice applications, as could rise, fall, and step. I'll probably go for the ph3, though I have no idea what the exp output is for. I've got my eyes on a suhr riot clone of some sort; the movall scorpion looks pretty op, and I'm still waiting for a joyo/mooer/caline/genric affordable brand fuzz factory, because when I've finished building mine, there's a tiny chance it'll actually work. The hotone soul press is very functional, as is the rocket train/rock highway, and the ehx stereo talking machine is just the shit. The SD shapeshifter is a sick tremolo, as is the EHX super pulsar, and I could do stuff with them, though I wouldn't use them enough to justify purchasing one. As far as chorus goes the new tri avatar from FTT is amazing!...ly expensive, but BOSS, and EHX make decent affordable chorus' though. The ring thing is cool, but I wouldn't use it enough to buy it, however the mooer bit reducer, and slow gear clone, could be rreally useful.

They need to hurry up, and develop those money trees.

Under ground rock scene in the UK

Yes the monarchy is a pile of crap, and yes they are overpaid (The queen is on something like 36 million a year for basically waving, making a few decisions, and a televised speech at Christmas), but we'd have less of an economy than the Spanish, without her.

I know I'm only 13, but we do alcohol the best in the world in my opinion, though the Germany, and Belgium are quite good, but then I'm not going on much experience.

Amp radio transmissions?

It happens all the time, and most of the time there's no issue with your amp. I built a fuzz factory clone, but I left some of the wires quite long, and they picked up stuff all the time. It's most likely dodgy wiring, in your amp, effect, or cable, coupled with your location. I live in the attic of a district on a hill so I get it a lot more than my friends who play guitar, and live in a valley.

a giant thread about... AMPS!

Like with marshall, theyre not bad, at least not ALL bad. BOSS simply can't do any gain pedals, but their delays, modulations, and filter/frequency stuff, is pretty good. I know I talk about it a lot, but now I have the secure funding to carry it out, I am seriously shooting out between the x series phaser or flanger, and ph3, or bf3, to replace my modulation spot, on the board.

10yover 10 years ago

a giant thread about... AMPS!

I don't mean to say theyre not good, I mean to say they're not as good as they're made out to be. I've played some utter bolllocks made by Marshall though so it's not all beautiful.

Christmas gear thread.

Screw you Jim, I logged on to EB, with the intent of making this exact thread. Of course there was the vc15, but I'm looking to flog on my old amp, sh*tty behringer overdrive, and chord branded chorus tomorrow, then add buy the digitech x series flanger or phaser, and probably the movall rocket train, as I decided and OD, and a compressor, would be fairly useful. The amp has a killer drive channel, but when I'm practising with my band, I don't have my amp with me, so It'd be good to have one for rehearsal, and my p90s feedback like hell, so a compressor, or noise gate, or EQ or something to hold back my frequencies, would be ridiculously useful.

I had a little play earlier, setting up my guitar into my g1xon with three delays on a patch, into my pitchfork set to detune, into my x4 with a dotted-eighth delay, and a lot of feedback, then one output being sent into my borrowed WEM tape echo, and into the VC15, with max reverb, and the other being sent back into my back line 6 spider's clean channel, with a chorus in front, a flange on the amp, and a quarter note delay also on the amp. I then looped it with the g1xon's built in jobby, just a nice c chord I found in total guitar, and played violin over the top. Angelic, my friend, angelic.

Not a Marshall guy. Overrated personally. I've always been a Fendery guy at heart, though I'm partial to AC30/15s, and the odd 5150/boogie rectifier thing. Not that I could afford any of those, mind.

Depends a tonne on how you define metal distortion, but as a rule if BOSS make it, and it says distortion, run to the nearest bunker, and lock the doors, while a secure team, of experts, deal with it. Nah but seriously the empress heavy kicks ass.

I personally prefer the European reviewers, but the American guitarists. I have a long overdue youtube vid to post on the best demoists which I'll post at some point, on here. I love Jared Dines, Rob Scallon, Erock 331 Stevie T, though he can be very weird, and annoying, etc, but I love Rob, and Lee, Dan, and Mick, Henning, JJ, Denniss...Geez, I'm wasting my life.

I'm with you on that, personally I love Fender amps (Well soundwise, because, from what I can gather from personal experience, and horror stories, they're unreliable, and injury prone). If I could go with one amp, I remember thinking it would these blackface Fender actually, but I can remember which one it is, and it's gonna bug me so much, dammit.

Merry Christmas y'all!

Actually it was quite good. Saw it today in 4dx, because my friend booked the tickets wrong, but aprt from the constant motion, vibrations, water, and have shots of air down your neck, it was quite decent. I'm pissed it's two more years til the next episode. Do you think Ray is Kylo Ren's sister?

Most UNDERrated bands.

Talking of imagine dragons, who's seen their rig rundown.

I laughed, and felt jealous, and outdone for hours after that; he changes his bloody tubes EVERY GIG, his gold plated guitar has a built in carbon copy, and two other effects I can't remember, and he does little more than basic rhythm playing, and crappy leads.

There are amazing artists out there playing with just the bare bones, and these nutter needs all the ridiculous stuff in his video.

I don't know if it's this rig rundown where he the guitarist says he uses a friedman, to get "that real gritty marshall tone". USE A MARHSALL!!! There are some hilarious moments in our little sub-culture of guitarness.

How to get this sound? - Post here to get ideas on how your favourite band gets their sound.

Would that be Josh, or Alain playing. Josh is great, but Alain is just a genius.

The whole affair reminds me of Cream (a la Strange Brew), for some reason, I think the vocals play a large part.

a giant thread about... AMPS!

Started off with a Fender Frontman, and so consequentially I spent half of my first year of playing guitar wrapping my jack lead round it to produce any sound.

Once I managed to convince my parents I was commited I went and bought myself a line 6 spider IV 15 thing (Same as Liam's). The worst bit is that I thought I was such a legend for it, and all the guitarists I knew were laughing their pro-tube arses off behind my back.

Finally I have got a decent tube combo; laney vc15, bought second hand from a bloke at my church. Hey it does the job, but unlike the line 6 it sounds quite nice.
