Alesis BRC ADAT remote

Autolocation and Transport Control for up to 16 ADATs The Alesis BRC Master Remote Control adds a set of powerful creative and operational tools to your ADAT or ADATXT digital recording system. It provides SMPTE, MIDI, and Video synchronization, digital editing, and a full-function multi-machine autolocator with an onboard memory. The BRC is the only device that allows you to control up to 128 ADAT tracks from one location, either table top mounted, in a studio rack, or on an optional roll-around stand. Another BRC function that can't be found anywhere else is the ability to edit and assemble your songs using bars and beats. Other features include sample-accurate auto punch in/out and rehearsal modes, 460 Location points with 8-character alphanumeric names, full control of Track Delay (up to 170 ms per track), Tape Offset between multiple recorders, SMPTE Offset and Generation, MIDI Tempo Maps and Clock Generation, and MIDI Machine Control.

More than just a remote control, the BRC is a SMPTE time code synchronizer, allowing ADATs to chase-lock to time code from video or analog recorders. SMPTE offsets may be set to single sample (1/48,000th of a second) accuracy. You can select ADAT's tape time, SMPTE time, or bars and beats as a display reference. All BRC settings and memories may be stored digitally on the data header of each ADAT tape for quick recall at any time. When you need to bring your ADATs together into a complete, fully-professional system, the BRC is the ultimate in digital audio recording control.

Fantastic hard disk recorder!

This is a 24 channel 24 bit 96kh hard disk recorder by non other than Alesis! This recorder will give you up to 24 track of digital quality recordings. It comes with two hard drives that can be switched out and has two drive bays. Its menu is very easy to navigate. It sounds really good!

I worked at a studio that ahd one of these in the big room hooked up to my old Teac console, we had the drive caddy to dump ytacks to prtools in the mixing room/overdub area and I have to say the alesis tracks always sounded phenomenal

Great bass/guitar

Some of these have slight intention issues but its easily fixable. I had mine set up by a tech and its right on the money! It plays great! Has lots of options for pickup selection and 30'' scale. LOve this thing!

ebowglow

Nice delays. Quite a few are from the H3000 and such.

This is really a great delay pedal. It sounds great and is easy to program presets or algorithms. I like being able to split the left and right delay signals. Its a great compliment to the Eventide Space pedal. Lots of fun.

Berhringer Eurodesk MX2442a

We all hear the occasional "blah blah blah" about Behringer products. I have to say this 24 channel mixer has been great! It's pretty quiet and the preamps aren't half bad. It has 4 stereo buses and stereo out. I thought the built in "talk back " mic was pretty cool. I mainly used this for drum tracking but I was really impressed with the Eurodesk mx2442a. Now Im not saying its as good as Neve by a long shot. But I got some really great recordings this this guy. I had mine for several years and have had no issues what so ever.

Vox Valvetronix AD30VT

This is a great 30 watt amplifier from Vox. It has 2 channels to store settings for built in multi effects. And there's also I manual setting. Although the effects are decent I plan on using this little guy for clean and overdrive. The AD30vt has a 10 inch speaker and i cant wait to record it!

Fernandes fks-101 single coil driver Sustainer

If you're looking for endless sustain or even Ebow like effects look no further! This kit is powered by a 9v battery. It has 2 modes (Standard and Harmonic). You get unbelievable harmonics when in harmonic mode. I use it mainly in the standard mode for Ebow like effects using chords instead of a single note. If you've never played a sustainer pickup set go check it out! It may not be for everyone but it can definitely give you creative ideas for writing. NOTE: If you are considering installing one of these bad boys in your guitar there's quite a bit of using wood tools (router) and some soldering. If this intimidates you Id take it to a shop and get them to do it.

Cremona SV-130

The SV-130 is a bright and wonderful violin! I love the way this little guy resonates when I play other instruments in the same room! It's very well made but you may have to take it to a Luther and have them set it up properly. It holds tune very well and is a pleasure to play! Hand-carved solid spruce top, and-carved solid maple back, sides, neck and scroll.

dukeuke

Nice to see another violinist on EB

ebowglow

Same here! You can't go wrong with just 4 strings! ;o) I have to say that I play cello way better than violin though. I love the violin but it just so small it seems. I started out on guitar and cello and eventually picked up violin. It takes lots of practice!

ebowglow

Thompson Cello

I absolutely love this cello! This is the second cello I've owned. When I played it it just sounded beautiful (not necessarily my playing,THE TONE! haha). The neck very comfortable and the set up was pretty good! The only thing I didn't care for is the aluminium tailpiece and wonky fine tuners. I ordered an ebony tailpiece with top notch fine tuners and have fallen in love with this thing, It hold tune very well!

ebowglow

Peavey razor

I was surprised at how well this guitar played and sounded! Back in my youth i use to play lots of punk and metal. the thing i remember best about this guitar is how well the action was set and how easily you could get artificial harmonics. I dont own it anymore. But If I found one for the right price I may crank out some Sex Pistols tunes on it!

Ernie Ball Musicman Sterling Sub Ray 4

I've played several music man sting rays/ sterlings and such and have to say that this bass is the closest you'll probably get without dropping $1k plus! By all means if you have the cash get the stingray or sterling. But this bass won't leave you disappointed. Its has the same feel and weight and balance, and that huge, wonderful, active pickup. It sounds darn good too! Its a very playable bass. The only difference is you don't have a control knob for the mid range. But with good EQ levels ( on the guitar and amp) this thing will rock your face off! I love it. I think they go for around $400 usd. Great bass!

Roland xp50

I love this synth but as they age they develop issue (just like people). The sounds are really great for industrial, goth, ambient type music. And you can also add on other expansion cards and have a huge library to choose sounds from. Its well known for its glowing orange display ( which has issues with age but is a simple fix). I will say that I've read in several places that the capacitors Roland chose to use in the particular synth arent the greatest. THEY WILL GO BAD. Youll get nice fuzzy notes and audio squeals. But the good news is you can have it recapped for about the price of a new old synth. ($400 usd the last time i checked). But it is a great sounding synth when its working. I Actually made an entire album using one.

fuzzy notes and audio squeals sound cool, I don't think I would fix it....

Johnson JR-410-VS Delta Blues Resonator Resophonic Guitar

This guitar has a warm yet bright tone. Its very soothing to hear it. I always break this one out when the wife is on my ass and start playing some blues. OH you can get some low down and dirty, rollin in my own misery kind of sound with it. I love it. It plays well. My wife doesn't care for it cause most of the blues songs I make up are directed at her. (Ill never admit it) Oops! I just did! Seriously its a great guitar for the money!

Exploring the eerie sounds of a horror movie favorite

This is one of the coolest instruments ever! We've all heard it in some of our favorite horror movies (its used a lot in THE HUNGER). It makes some of the creepiest and other worldly sounds ever heard IMO. They can be played with a bow, a mallet, or even just bumping it with your hands. I dream of finding one of these in a garage sale one day for 5 bucks because they are kind of pricey.

ebowglow

Ukelin

This is one of the strangest instruments I've found and actually own. LOTS of strings. I've read that its supposed to be a cross between a Ukulele and violin. Its played with a bow. I have to say I've never heard a recording of this instrument being played. But I got some strange sounds out of it. Its cool for what it is. I wish I had more Info.

Eventide H3000

I've wanted one of these bad boys for a long time! What can I say? Its and Eventide! One of the coolest effects processors ever! From my understanding it will not do 2 effects at a time (say huge hall panned right and distortion panned left) like some processors do. But this guy has been around since the 80's (my favorite era for music) and has been used on countless records. It has about 700'ish presets. It has stereo in and out by XLR as wells as midi in/thru/out. I love it! I just hope my wife doesn't find out how much i paid for it! ;o)

UPDATE I've updated the EPROM chips to H3500 "everything" and have a total of 1000 presets. This thing is just unbelievable! I love it! I hear people mention that its only 16 bit but that's CD quality for crying out loud! LOVe it!

the 3000 and AMS harmonizers are cool in how limited they are... though to my ear the H3000 patches on that eventide pedal, the H9? they do the business plus if you get a max you get a billion more algorhythms. Not to mention having the ability to layer patches, pan and such in ways the H3000 can't. I mean, the 3k was really meant as a studio piece. Just print your effect to a track if you wanna use your H3k for another effect, right? but as a guitarist its limiting.

ebowglow

Yeah, I've read about some guitarist actually having 2 or more in they're rack because of the limitations. But for what it does it does extremely well! I'm mainly going to use it in my studio for vocals, reverbs, and delays etc. The h3000 has some really wild effects. I fell in love with it the first time i heard it back in 95 I think? Hmm.

Bixby 335 semi hollow body

Let me start out by saying I bought this guitar on Ebay because of it super cheap price (about $199 then). When I received it it was absolutely beautiful! It felt solid! The stock strings were terrible but they always are. So when I plugged this guy in i was amazed at how quiet it was! It sounded pretty good! I did notice that one of the strings didn't hold tune. So i took it and had my guitar shop set it up to 335 specs. Played great when I got it back but still has the issue with the detuning string. I've read in several forums that this style guitar often has similar issues due to the nut on the headstock. Im not sure though... I haven't had it repaired as of yet. Bottom line; this might be a great guitar for the price but you may have to put a bit more into it having it setup properly and such. Although i do like it i should have got another to $200 and bought an epiphone 335. But some of those have the same issues.

the string is binding in the nut due to the angle it passes through the slot at... and shoddy craftsmanship. To start, try adding some graphite "guitar" lubricant to the slots nect time you shange strings. If that doesn't do it you may want to de-burr the string slots on the nut with some fine grit wet sandpaper and then lubricate them.

ebowglow

Thanks for the tip! Ill give that a try. Its amazing how something so simple can cause such issues. It actually seems like a really nice" knock off" guitar with that one exception. Maybe they are in too much of a hurry in China to do such things. ;o)

jimmarchi1

real Gibsons are prone to string binding as well, its the combination of the steep headstock/neck angle and the guys who shape the nuts being rushed to complete certain number of guitars per day.... the custom shops are less prone to this problem the more you spend on them, because a lot more time goes into the details, but even vintage 50s gibsons had tuning issues from the factory back in the day... they were great guitars, better than a current Gibson Nashville guitar, but still a factory guitar with assembly-line workers meeting quotas laid down by the top brass

how'd the graphite work out for ya?

ebowglow

Actually the graphite did help. I played it for a couple of weeks with hardly any issues. It has recently started do the same thing again so I bought a new nut and replaced it. I did use the graphite in the grooves of the nut again and so far it has been fantastic! But I would agree that the graphite made a huge difference. Thanks again man!

Yamaha QY70

This little guy is a monster for such a tiny sequencer! Its very easy to program and has some pretty decent sounds. I personally like the electronic drum set on this thing. Its very forgiving when programming and can even run on batteries ( last maybe 3 hours non stop programming). Its also nice that it can easily sit on top of a synth while in use. Really cool. I wish it would have had a lighted back display and an option for file storage besides the data filer for PC. But if you can find one for cheap they're lots of fun!

Rode Nt2a

Very nice microphone! I use it on everything! Its a multipattern 1" diaphram condenser mic. It sounds really nice especially for the price!

Inexpensive DI for Bass!

The Behringer BDI21 bass tone DI pedal is a great way to record bass. I personally use it as a DI in combination with micing my bass cabinet and have got some really nice results! No, its not a Sansamp but its comparable and at a fraction of the cost of the Sans! It has an XLR out, 1/4" ts out, 1/4" ts in. If you get a chance try it out! I paid about $30 US dollars for it new and Im pretty impressed with what I've heard so far. Even if it dies in a couple of years... it was 30 bucks. I spend more than that on strings in a years time. Give it a listen!
