impressive! You've Gotek'd out both vintage Akais, right?
Yep! Got Sd card on S950, CF card on MPC3K and usb memory stick on SP1200! All Gotek!
I still need to Gotek my S950. I want to re-cap it and re-calibrate the DAC, just for the heck of it too. If I'm opening it up, I don't want to have to open it again for another 30 years, ya know?
How difficult was it to go from The 3k To the Live 2? Which do you enjoy using more?
Hey.. I really enjoy both machines but the 3k is mŷ main workhorse in terms of sequencing. All sample sources into DJ mixer. Mixer into Live 2 where I Chop and use filters, effects and eq, I can save massive amounts of samples and ideas in the Lives Ssd too which means I can have days of just spinning records and recording stuff. I Then sample everything individually into the 3k, SP1200, S950. Sometimes just one machine, other times all of them for different sound textures. I know you didn’t ask about all that but it’s important because it determines for me how I will use a machine to its greatest strengths. The 3k is a pleasure to work on all day.. every function has its own button.. the jog wheel feels good.. the pads are buttery, no nasty coloured bright lights flashing at me, doesn’t crash, no screen touching, 8 individual outs plus stereo outs so 10 outputs straight to mixer. Solid MIDI clocking to all external machines with 64 MIDI channels with intuitive set up for it. No menu diving. Never fighting the machines sequencer timing to be how you intended.. it feels more like an instrument because it’s giving back the timing you feel you are putting in. The locate functionality of scrolling through your sequence is like a tape machine and is a beautiful design, The tap tempo button is actually accurate unlike my Live 2.
Where the live 2 works for me is its amazing battery life and portability, useful speaker for taking with me and going through samples. Incredible chopping, warping, huge sample memory with the Ssd Hard drive.. incredible amount of filters and eq possibility’s. Creating draft ideas that I can then take to the 3k sequencer. I can plug in any ones synth or drum machine and really quickly make a few fully playable instruments, not possible on a 3k.
Apologies for the long reply just thought I would try and explain why i use them as a team. Short answer.. 3k beast at the heart of the studio.. bringing the soul and wisdom. The Live 2 bringing sharp intellect and memory.
Peace ✌️
