12-bit << MEGA BEAST >>
Legendaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaary crunch. 90's sound signature. Really intuitive to use (imo). Sampling anything in this beast is great. Plus, you cant go wrong with the low-pass filter on this bad bwoy. Just a great, feature packed sampler. JUNGLIST MASSIVE!
Underrated as heck
Sounds straight up fantastic. It can be super transparent & if you go into more extreme settings, you can get some decent color. Very fun to tweak.
Avg price: $319.62
HS5 ARE NOT WORTH COMPARED TO THESE
7" woofers reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally make the difference.
Avg price: $435.82
punchy, crunchy, 16-bit goodness
You always wanted that punchy, bit crushed sound, but never quite got it out of plugins or whatnot. This bitch will do it for you and even better. Although hardware sampling is a thing of the past and using your daw or audio interface to sample is so, so, so, so much more efficient, you just cant get that hardware character. On the upside, they are expandable (fx board, or extra outs, sd floppy emulator, memory) and nowadays they are cheap (got mine for 90$). Only downside i'd say is that the os is wonky at times (os can hang and freeze sometimes) and the screen is ssSmall. That said, love mine.

how often do you use that S2000? I'm starting to see folks using it for that late-90s 16-bit Akai coloration.
i use it for drums mostly. I use it here and there when the sound of the S950 doesnt suite what i want. Sounds crunchy, punchy and great. Usually what i do is i sample in the S950 and floppy the samples into the S2000. That way i can get that 12-bit crunch without the aliasing filter on the S950.
Love the 12-bit + smooth filter solution. Brilliant.
