ca138's Metal Studio Setup
Latest cut of the pedal rack. The Boss DC-2w is spectacular and is a keeper. It sounds as good in the DAW mix as a bus on synths and other instruments as it does on guitars. I use the SDD-320 setting with preset 4 exclusively.
The Walrus Audio Fathom was a poor choice. I do like the modulation effect with the spring reverb setting but it just sounds so grainy - and you can actually hear the FV-1 signature sound (often described as an airy 'zing' noise). Also, it doesn't remember it's power down state and defaults to disabled when powered-on - being the only pedal I have that does this and being at the back of the rack unit, it is a bit of a dealbreaker as having to reach in and manually hit the button every time I power up is a pain. Walrus Audio were very good in offering to reflash the microchip for free to reverse this setting, but I have decided to return it and look for something different as a late-chain texture reverb.
Looking closely at the OBNE BL-37 Reverb at the moment. Being able to dial out the dry mix and adjust the volume would work beautifully with ML10X switcher patches where I can run reverb in parallel to delay and other effects.
Lastly, I'm ordering parts for a Belton Brick based mono reverb with analog modulation to run alongside whatever I replace the Fathom with. Been a while since I built a pedal like this.

The pinnacle of studio stereo chorus
What an absolutely beautiful sounding stereo chorus pedal. I have this wired up as a DAW insert and it sounds spectacular for not only guitars (clean, crunch or distorted all work very well - unlike many other chorus pedals) but also synths, vocals, even drum tracks. It thickens and widens anything and there is no bad setting. I use switch 4 most of the time for guitar and bass tracks which is amazing. The fact that this is still analog is remarkable - it's like having the original rack unit available with less admin and all the same sound quality and tone.
