Radial Engineering is a Canadian pro audio manufacturer based in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, founded by Peter Janis in 1991. The company began as an importer of Mogami cable and Jensen audio transformers before developing its own products, starting with the JDI passive direct box in 1996. The JDI, built around a Jensen transformer, became one of the most widely used DI boxes in professional audio. In 2002, Radial introduced the J48, an active DI featuring a digital switching power supply, which alongside the JDI established the company as the dominant name in direct boxes for live sound and studio recording.
Beyond DI boxes, Radial manufactures a broad range of signal management tools including the Switchbone and BigShot ABY amp switchers, audio splitters, and rackmount interfaces. The company acquired John Cuniberti's ReAmp technology in 2011, producing reamping devices like the X-Amp and Reamp JCR. Radial also makes the Tonebone line of guitar pedals, including tube-driven distortion and acoustic preamp pedals like the PZ-Pre. In 2014, Radial acquired Jensen Transformers, the storied transformer manufacturer whose components have been integral to Radial products since the beginning.
Radial gear is a staple on major tours and in professional studios worldwide, with users including Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, U2, Rush, AC/DC, Billy Joel, Tommy Emmanuel, and Fleetwood Mac. The company also operates Primacoustic, a sister brand producing acoustic treatment products used in recording studios globally.
