ca138's Metal Pedalboard
This was the first iteration of my pedal rack. The aim was to be able to wirelessly switch pedals in and out of the mix/DAW in any order using the amazing Morningstar ML10X MIDI switcher and a WIDI transmitter. It is also designed to be portable, with a quick-connect rear panel (Neutrik D-series power and audio panel). I have it now mounted below my studio desk and it operates via either software MIDI or wireless foot switches. You can slide the rack drawer out to make dial adjustments easily.
Being able to create patches which run any combination of effects (including several drive pedals in parallel) with stereo options is very powerful and makes for new creative uses of some of my oldest beloved pedals which were previously gathering dust in storage. Having moved from analog to completely digital about 10 years ago, I found that I have very much missed that analog warmth and harmonic content that you can't replicate, even with the best of digital amp sims and rack units.
This new hybrid approach, using analog pedals in the signal chain with high-end amp simulation software is the best way forward to me.
Note: The Boss DD-6 has been replaced by the DD-8 for nice stereo panning effects and the CH-1 has been extensively modified (including a complete replacement of all caps, dual-stacked OPAMPS and some resistance mods) for very lush stereo width. These pedals both sound incredible as DAW inserts for other instruments, vocals and synths.
