Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about EMG BQC Control System.

Features and functionality

  • The BQC system produces a very hot signal, often requiring an "active pad" on amps or DIs to prevent distortion.

    Source
  • EMG BTC-HZ system features two dip switches that adjust the high-end frequency, impacting the tonal brightness significantly.

    Source
  • The BQC system can be used with a 25k volume push/pull pot, suitable for setups involving push/pull volume, balance, mid/mid control, and bass/treble configurations.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Wiring the BQC for two 9-volt batteries can provide more headroom, potentially resolving distortion issues.

    Source
  • It is possible to use existing push/pull pots if they are compatible; soldering may be needed if they are not solderless.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Correct wiring is crucial; reversing jumper wires is a common mistake that can affect performance.

    Source
  • Half the pots in some setups may be solderless while others are not, requiring attention for compatibility with the BQC system.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • Ensure the correct balance pot is used; the B125 Active Balance Control is needed for passive pickups to avoid impedance mismatches.

    Source

User experience

  • The BQC system may overpower effects pedals, suggesting it's not ideal for users seeking subtle tonal control.

    Source
  • Some users report discovering tonal differences due to dip switch settings in the BTC-HZ system, affecting perceived sound quality between identical bass guitars.

Solid, Powerful Preamp with boost and cut

4 Stars Boom? Why such a lowtarded star score for such a great piece of gear? I'll tell you. I'll tell you hard.

The EMG plastic knobs SUCK. They are so low quality, on par with the little "Homies" and "Mijos" toys you buy out front of a Wal-Mart vending machine for 25 cents. They have plastic molding, sharp as hell, hanging off of the sides. The knobs are light weight and feel horrible.

The actual chips and arrangement of the system are REALLY awkward and long. One of the circuit boards is 3 inches long. You won't be able to fit that in a lot of control panels I promise you. Super hard to get it in there and even then, you risk bending the wires.

It sounds awesome. It cuts and boosts HARD. The range you can tweek out is amazing, it's just a shame it comes at the price of poor knobs and huge circuit boards.

jimmarchi1

they probably made the board as small as they could without sacrificing any sound quality, sorry! I'll bet if it was bigger with full size components and lots of space between traces it would sound even better for you, but it definitely would not fit in your bass.... I am sure a lot of EMG's decisions on the circuit board were dictated by balancing a size and shape that would fit the average control cavity with the availability of quality subminiature parts and a good PCB layout that avoids audio crosstalk between traces.... I make no excuse for the crappy hardware, EMG should get their act together in that regard!
