Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Fender Pre-Amp Mid Boost Kit 25 Db.

Features and functionality

  • The kit allows real-time control over the boost level through the bridge tone control, similar to Clapton signature Strats.

    Source
  • The mid boost can alter the traditional volume control response of a guitar when used with a Fuzzface pedal, resulting in a harsher, trebly tone.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Installation may require routing for the battery, though some users opt for mounting it under the pickguard.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • A plastic battery holder can be installed in the back for easier battery changes, avoiding the need to remove the pickguard.

    Source
  • Adding a pot after the mid boost circuit could help adjust impedance issues when using fuzz pedals, similar to the input pot on some fuzz circuits.

    Source
  • Lace sensors are a debated choice; some prefer them for a distinctive sound, while others recommend keeping stock pickups and using a boost pedal instead.

    Source
  • Some suggest using a pre-wired Clapton pickguard for convenience, though availability is often limited to used options.

    Source

Comparisons

  • A Boss GE-7 pedal is considered a comparable alternative, offering similar functionality with more options, though potentially slightly noisier.

    Source
  • Instead of the mid boost, a Tube Screamer pedal running after a fuzz face can provide a more stable tone without the impedance mismatch issues.

    Source
  • Older Clapton Strats with lace sensors might be found at competitive prices, possibly offering better value than converting an SE Silver Sky.

    Source

User experience

  • The mid boost's placement on the guitar itself is favored over pedals for convenience and immediate access during performances.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The mid boost's interaction with fuzz pedals is crucial for guitarists who rely on volume pot roll-off to clean up their sound, suggesting careful consideration in such setups.

    Source
  • A user created a partscaster with hot gold lace sensors and a mid boost, noting it produced a highly praised "stratiest" tone.

    Source
  • Using a hot bridge pickup with the mid boost can be overpowering, so regular hot gold lace sensors are recommended for balance.

Perfect for a Pedal

I put it in a pedal enclosure and added a true-bypass switching to be able to use ist with all my guitars. I also took the TBX out of the system and put it right in my strat as a master-tone.

Love it!
