Features and functionality

  • The TC-755's playback mode may not engage directly from fast-forward or rewind, similar to the TC-580, which requires stopping first.

    Source
  • The Sony's analog VU meters are noted for their appealing design, contrasting with the Akai's stronger reel motors for fast winding.

    Source
  • Sony's head technology is praised for quality, though not as robust as Pioneer or Teac/Tascam's metal decks.

Mods and upgrades

  • 3D-printed reel locking tridents can replace cracked originals, offering a DIY solution for unobtainable parts.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Sony TC-755 features double capstan and multiple EQ settings, whereas Akai GX-630D is known for its durable glass heads with minimal wear over time.

sick machine, great reel to reel

not the best reel to reel out there, but definitely a favourite of mine. great analogue sounds, but quite finicky. While i prefer a fostex or tascam, this is a great unit.
