How to get this sound? - Post here to get ideas on how your favourite band gets their sound.
I used to have a companion fuzz, that's the sound; especially using a hollow body into an 80s solid state amp or a silverface 6L6 fender turned up LOUD
and you DON'T control the feedback, you just go with it and hope it works out, though you can work your guitar controls to tame it a little.... but on the whole the feedback controls your song and you like it or lump it.

Anyone bought any new cds or downloaded anything or gowever you get your music?
vinyl? its okay... I have heard some AMAZING record players mounted on gyroscopic labs in mastering facilities... they sound decent.... MP3 and a lot of CD sounds so bad and its so normal for people younger than me that they forget how good even cheap stereo gear sounded in the 80s and early 90s... and I caught the tail end of hfi
portability is what drives music reproduction markets now, sound quality is no longer a priority for the majority
me? I enjoy listening to 1/2" and 1/4" copies of master tapes if I can get 'em LOL
that's some sound quality if you have a good deck

[FOR SALE] Access Virus C Desktop Module (discount for my Equipboard friends)
That will cover aproximately 130 to 140 two packs of soothies. You have 2 kids so your binky loss/destruction rate is twice as high as mine was.
Given the unusually high infant-to-adult ratio at your house you are maybe being overly generous with your shipping and EB-member discount!

Must take a massive amount of patience to figure out how everything works and which sound has the sweet spot.
there is no sweet spot, just different shades of meh

ugh... speaker size has literally nothing to do with raw electrical power (wattage) and these days is only loosely related to speaker efficiency (AKA dB's of physical loudness per watt)... and, and, and....
I just can't on Monday.
GO PRACTICE UNPLUGGED UNTIL YOU ARE JEFF BECK GOOD

I mean, if you go modern solid state you are getting tons of bells and whistles because theya re almost required to give them to you, but the normal channel will be the best sounding
to me a midrange control is complex, my buddy and I were just discussing how some of the ebst sounding guitar gear has 1 to 3 knobs total
if you are going tube, 5 watts and 1 to 3 knobs will sound great in a lot of situatons and will also be cheapest
10yabout 10 years ago
2 channels is not simple. channel switching is double not simple, high gain is not simple and also is completely pointless in a small amp unless you want to do metal in your bedroom at whisper levels (and it still won't sound particularly good)
all of you young guys are out to lunch, decide what you are trying to do and get the gear to do the job

the bass vi was huge in the 80s... the cure, joy division, the church and aerosmith (back in the saddle, anyone?).... I can't think of all the notable users of the era off the top of my head but they were many. The bass iv never caught on so it was a cheap way to get new sounds back then. Original examples were plentiful. When the bass iv was new there were a lot of nashville productions that used them like a baritone too. No one's sure if Glenn Campbell used it for Wichita Lineman and Galveston or if he used a dan-o shorthorn (hes been seen performing those songs live with both), but my money's on the Fender.
but the 6 string bass has never been incredibly popular.
also, the new bass vi is all wrong, it lacks a lot of the coolness of the original like the uniquely designed pickups and awesome switching like a jaguar plate with 4 switches.... cool

I am totally stalled on this remix. now. I just realized what was throwing my groove when I tried to use big chunks from your stem files, they were all a 1/2 step off in FL, and getting them time aligned has changed my perspective on what I can do with it...
Its in Em right?
like: Em - C - Bm - G - Bm - Em repeat or something
I should sit and play it on the piano or guitar with just your bass and drum track to wrap my head around the timing in your original version

a little sample of where I'm going with this:
it must be going well, because whenever I work on it while my son is awake he's like "No no, this music is too loud!" even when I am monitoring at ridiculously low levels... if its offensive to small children then I am doing my job
10yabout 10 years ago
I got rid of most of my synths at this point to fund some important life issues because I just don't use them that much, but some stuff I can't get rid of
even at my peak I had nothing like your stable!
but the poly800, matrix1000 rack and volca bass had to be sacrificed on the altar of good parenting... given the choice between thinning the guitar herd and thinning the synth herd I usually ditch synths since you can do a lot with very little synth-wise, especially when you have a roland analog, Yamaha FM and a digital wavetable synth as well as tons of plugins

the blues jr will not be cheaper because the UK's economy is down.... its a USA product, dude. Its vintage amps from the UK that will be cheaper for awhile. Just trust me. Modern stuff probably won't be cheaper.... basically think of it this way, the UK's insanely expensive amps of yesteryear are about to become just fairly expensive. it won't effect you because you don't have the budget to take advantage.
10yabout 10 years ago
unless I can fly out for a week its not worth it, most UK internet sellers don't ship here.... I would wanna pick stuff up
if you have the scratch start hitting the pawn stores and small music shops in about a month Duke

okey doke, I started mangling your stems.... I am deciding if I want to keep your structure intact or not... my remix policy, especially with house and trance type of stuff like this tune, is to completely ditch the drums and do MY kinda thing with it instead of the typically 4 on the floor beat, but to build the rest of the re-arrangement up using ONLY the existing sounds
though I may block out a few extra parts with the DX7 or ensoniqs on this just to add some digital synth texture and also to build some harmonic density that's only implied in your arrangement... I've done a lot just using your bass synth line already, syncopating a new groove and taking away the crispness... I might be able to knock this out over the weekend

you really wanna buy vintage amps in person if you can so you can hear if they are making any weird noises.... something can look clean and well-maintained inside and it may have issues, but if all you have to go ona re photos and prmises you can wind up paying top dollar for a piece that is ready for extensive service and then have to chase the dealer for a partial refund whereas in person you could have an honest talk with the guy and work out the fair price, that is if he isn't already marking it fairly to begin with.... vintage prices are inflated on ebay and reverb
guitar shows
I wish I could kick it to London in a few months to take advantage of the weak GBP and score some cool old heads, bring them on as carry on, leave my clothes and toiletries behind if needed, but money and free time are against me
10yabout 10 years ago
Beginners share your track, and others give any feedback.
sounds like you've got the general idea
it lacks a sense of space and the composition doesn't take me anywhere, but that's kinda par for the course in this idiom I guess, keep at it
10yabout 10 years ago
what's the BPM on this tune Whorse? I am totally going to remix this today

Guinness and bacon is the breakfast of champions.... you know, they really get breakfast right in the UK other than their piss weak coffee, but it doesn't seem to be frowned on to have a beer instead of coffee so I give them points for that!

the EU as a loose governmental structure is really fucked up, agreed
its really more about streamlining trade within Europe while setting human rights standards throughout the continent... I am still saying that since you guys failed to adopt the Eurodollar you were only pseudo-participants. I would not be surprised if the UKs failure to join team Eurodollar with the other countries has contributed to the new currency's notorious instability.

welp, prices will catch up with inflation shortly in the UK, the price adjust ments in the USA are always fast and severe....but I am talking about vintage UK made music gear, I am not suggesting anyone go to the UK to buy NEW products (in fact I never suggest people buy new gear when they can get old stuff at good prices)....
the UK has more of their own classic amps and recording equipment than other countries and when the economy takes a shit in a country that's when the good old music gear surfaces at rock bottom prices. I did well out of various US economic crises, but the UK has never been worse off than us since I've been collecting. With the exchange rate in my favor and your average limey feeling the pinch I am just thinking we are about to pull into their vintage market's rock bottom phase. Used musical gear always drops when the going gets rough. People flood the market with cool gear they need to sell and values therefore dip, it takes the collectables markets longer to adjust to inflation than markets for new goods too... sometime this year will be an ideal time to buy up vintage stuff from the UK. We are about to see a big dip in the more common old british amps.... so metal face 4 input marshalls, 800s, anything old by Laney, post-matamp orange amps, probably hiwatts, sound city for sure and original JMI vox gear and especially the post-JMI vox stuff. Anything that got manufactured in good quantity back in the day will start appearing for sale now. In a few months assuming the GBP stays weak the market will be at low ebb. If you can make a trip to the UK and arrange transport back to your homeland for all your cool scores then it will be time to buy.
EDIT:
When W first took office these Japanese dealers used to fly over heare and scour our pawnshops and attend all of our guitar shows. The big fish would rent a shipping container. They would spend millions while here, but they would literally fill that shipping container with vintage USA made gear like tweed fender amps and piles of 60s ES335s and such. Then they would ship it back home and sit on it until the market recovered. A lot of it they sold to rich Japanese business people who love rock n roll, but when the Japanese economy started to falter later you started seeing the Japanese selling our own gear back to us on ebay and still do. This is all stuff that was bought up at vrious points from HW Bush to W Bush heading back ehre now that the US market for it is stronger than the Japanese one!
but if you can afford to buy from the UK during this economic meltdown and KEEP some of it you will you will wind up with desireable stuff you will never be able to afford again. I probably can't afford it, I am just too far away. But folks in Germany, Benelux, Switzerland, France, Scandinavia? hmmm

I don't know what possessed me to post that industrial/jungle track outta the blue.
anyway, stems? looking for remixes?
EDIT:

Frankly the UK was barely engaged with the EU, all of you mainland countries really conglomerated your economies and shared a single currency but the UK never got on board. I don't think the UK has looked at themselves as a part of Europe since the reformation, maybe even since the wars of the roses ended. I feel like the EU will carry on better without them.
I am shocked about the GBP. Its never been weaker than the dollar that I recall in my lifetime. For the longest time while the dollar was sinking and sinking the pound was hanging in there and I was wondering how this tiny island nation was pulling it off during a global economic meltdown. Answer is? they weren't. Oh.
I guess now is the time to buy up vintage Vox, marshall, hiwatt and orange amps if you'e a yank like me. I need to raise some money and go scour the UKs pawn stores as things continue to get worse there....

here's my anti "everything I had"
its the direct opposite, prepare to be pummeled, and yes I smashed and cranked the 80hz range on purpose
edit: not sure why the 'emded' is showing me laying a strat and not the guts of my old poly800, there's only a smidgen of guitar in this one used more as a pad

I think you want a drill press for this job anyway. If you use a ahd drill you may not drill the holes well and you are guaranteed to chip the paint
also, be sure to put masking tape over the drill areas, it will help your drill gain traction without chipping the paint and will also give a removable surface to draw your drill targets onto

and to all you kids on EB, the lesson here is stay away from drugs and use extreme tact when trying to propose kinky sex practices to art school girls!
instead of eating magic mushrooms yesterday I decided to take my son to ride Thomas the Tank at the Day out with Thomas... all those shrieking toddlers and steam engines with animatronic faces are surprisingly trippy though. no chemicals needed
EDIT: now, out of curiosity, was she objecting to 'impure acts' in the "you want to put that where" sense, or kinky foreplay? because with the art set roleplay, bdsm etc is going to be a much easier sell, though it is unwise to engage in such behavior when intoxicated unless both parties are very experienced and know eachother well in the biblical sense
incidentally, I am not feeling anything from this song, nothing wrong with it sonically, but like your romantic encounter it doesn't go anywhere... a lot of your other dance tunes are vastly superior from a compositional standpoint

the emu drumulator really gives me a warm fuzzy because I grew up around it... I should buy my uncle's he never uses it and I might use it occasionally if I owned it.
