Got mine off my good cousin who is in the U.S. Army at the moment. Looking at the serial number, it was from the year 2000 and the pickguard started aging to a nice cream color. Only real downside is the lack of the extra tone pot, but you really don't need it to make this thing sound good!
My ME1980 was found at a thrift store, all dusty, only a few strings, and it needed a lot of cleaning. I bought it for only a whopping $20, and invested a little more, into making this thing perfect. First thing I did was paint the pickguard a solid black, to match the body. That helped its looks tremendously! Next thing was throw on a black chrome bridge, a hot rail humbucker, black volume knob, and some Ernie Ball paradigms. Did a little set up on it, and it plays like an absolute DREAM. This guitar itself, without the modifications, if I had just set it up and done some cleaning, it still would've been an amazing guitar! If you get this thing set up properly, this is a very nice-sounding, simple and comfortable guitar for beginners! I use mine as my main guitar, and it has been well worth it since the day I got it!

I got to say, I am impressed with the $99 I spent on this little thing! It might be 25 watts but it is pretty nice for indoor practice or small Coffeehouse gigs! Not to mention the overdrive and contour buttons are a pretty sweet option as well.
