This video by Angie Swan shows David explaining why he uses these guitar picks.
Well, cause I mainly play rhythm stuff and I sort of am strumming a lot, and sometimes they break off, the little point breaks off. So then, in my fingers I just rotate it, then I got another one. And then if that breaks I got another one.
This video shows David Byrne playing an Aklot Concert Banjo Ukulele in a 60 Minutes interview he did recently. You can see it at 8:23.
He played the same banjo uke at a Steve Earle and Friends show at City Winery in New York.
David Byrne used the Fender Mustang Electric Guitar in the early years of Talking Heads, alongside his Fender Duo Sonic. Both guitars were heavily modified by Byrne by the late 1970s, as evidenced by the image from Equipboard.
David Byrne is confirmed to have used a Fender Musicmaster II during Talking Heads' performance at The Kitchen in New York on March 13, 1976. This is supported by video footage available on YouTube, provided by MisterBiscuits. The guitar was later stolen during the band's first tour, as recounted by Talking Heads bassist Tina Weymouth in "Chronology" (2011), who stated, "I don't think David has that little Musicmaster made by Fender anymore. I think that was stolen on our very first tour before we left for Europe. It was just an awful, awful, crippling situation three days before we went on our first tour because we were living on five dollars a day."
