"I've got... [Analogman's] new [ARDX20] delay... I think those options can help express certain feelings and certain attitudes, and I’m always looking for new ways to do that. It’s exciting because there’s so much out there that I don’t even know about—the whole thing’s an adventure.”
"The strings that I'm playing on the [Epiphone Casino] are these bad boys right here. I've been rocking' on these since I started. That's the go-to deal right there."
On the photo on this page you can see his entire pedalboard. The purple pedal is the MXR La Machine. The article also mentions him using it.
An article from Tone Report, "Live Gear Spotlight: Gary Clark Jr", shows he uses a vintage 1966 Fender Jazzmaster:
The oddball of the group is a yellow vintage Jazzmaster, which is a whole new feel for Clark. He's still getting used to the guitar, and plays it occasionally on "Third Stone from the Sun" and "If You Love Me Like You Say."

The Tone Report showcases Gary Clark Jr's live setup, which features Cascade Fat Head II Ribbon Microphones. They write "The amps are mic'd with Cascade Fat Head 2 ribbon mics with Lundahl transformers mixed with a Beyer M69. Front of House man Bareth 'Cheex' Ramanath explains that the Beyer is warm, fat, and true to form."
Taken from an interview by Tone Report.
Gary Clark's technician, Dave Holman, was also interviewed by Premier Guitar. He says that this was an American made guitar sent to Europe as b-stock due to it not being up to Epiphone's a-stock standards. The body has a burl top that's been sun-faded due to long exposure in the sun especially around the pickguard which was removed, revealing the original colour.
Originally, this was a number one guitar for Gary, but has been replaced as a second. Gary's number one is currently a Gibson SG.
Gary Clark Jr. uses a Fano JM6 in this video from Bonaroo 2015. It looks like the Olympic white version. Gary's guitar is made from a mahogany neck and body A mahogany neck and has a pair of Lindy Fralin P-90s in it.
We see in this video that Gary has a MXR DC Brick to supply his pedals.
At 15:58 minute mark, one can see the pedal in Clark's rig. The pedal is also mentioned in the 2019 Premier Guitar interview with Clark.
In the YouTube video for "Blak and Blu" and "Bright Lights," Gary Clark Jr. is seen playing a Martin 00-18 Acoustic Guitar.
In a video by Wide Sky Guitars, Gary Clark Jr. discusses his use of the Wide Sky P125 semi-hollowbody electric guitar.
Find it on:
"I’ve got a Fulltone Octafuzz and a Real McCoy wah-wah."
I have a... Malekko delay."
"I’ve got a couple of Analog Man pedals—an Astro Tone Fuzz..."
Gary Clark Jr's guitar tech can be seen using a TC Electronic Polytune 2 in this Instagram video. The pedal is also mentioned in the 2019 Premier Guitar interview with Clark. However, it could be the first edition of PolyTune in question as well.
In an Instagram post, Gary Clark Jr. shares that he received a 1959 Gibson ES-175 as a surprise gift from his tour manager during a visit to the Gibson factory in Memphis.
In this photo, Gary Clark Jr. can be seen playing live with his own signature Gibson SG model. The official Gibson website talks about some of the details that make his signature SG unique:
The all new Gary Clark Jr. Signature SG guitar captures the spirit of creative inspiration. Finished in an exciting, vibrant Gloss Yellow and featuring a trio of aggressive Gibson P90 pickups, this guitar embodies the organic and sonorous sounds of one of this generation's most influential guitarists, vocalists and songwriters.
The pickups are as follows:
- Neck Pickup: P90SR
- Middle Pickup: P-90SM
- Bridge Pickup: P90ST
We see the pedal in this video at 16:03 in Gary's pedalboard.
In this video, Gary Clark Jr. is seen playing an Epiphone Masterbilt AJ-500M guitar.
“I’ve been drawn to certain amps for a while,” Clark says. “Crackling, overdriven…you know, speakers just about to bust. It sounds like a hundred-mile-an-hour fastball,” he says of the Lincoln Revel amp. “The collaboration just seemed to all make sense. It’s classic.”
Almost of his guitars are strung up with D’Addario Custom Nickel .011–.049, but the lower-tuned guitars use .011–.052. Those strings are also mentioned in the 2019 Premier Guitar interview with Clark.
In this screenshot of Gary Clark Jr. playing at Glastonbury he is using an "Earthworks" microphone and if we look closely we are able to see "..40V" at the top meaning it's a SR40V mic.

Visible in this June 2012 photo of Clark's board, as featured on Analog Man's official Astro Tone Fuzz product page.
In June, 2012 I finally got to hear Gary Clark Jr when he came to Connecticut. Gary has been using our ARDX20 for quite some time, and our Astro Tone and KOT pedals also. Gary is a FUZZ MEISTER and one of the hottest guitarists to come out in years!!! He used the Astro Tone for his basic fuzz sound, often in combination with the KOT, and sounded AMAZING. Here's his simple yet effective pedalboard:
Gary use this mic live @ New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival
At 0:20 into the video you can see a full view of Gary's pedal board, second pedal from the left is the Roland EV-5 Expression Pedal, in this video it is a little dark and hard to see where the cables track to but its likely connected to his Analogman ARDX20 to push it into oscillation and control the delay. He has mentioned in a previous video, "Rig Tour", about how much he loves oscillation/feedback and is guilty of using it too much.
This photo of Gary Clark Jr's pedalboard shows he uses the Korg Pitchblack Chromatic Pedal Tuner (this photo is his pedalboard circa 2014).
