Gary Jarman's Bass Guitars
GARY JARMAN USED THIS ONE FOR 2012's "IN THE BELLY OF THE BRAZEN BULL" RECORD AND LIVE PERFORMANCES.
In this Fender interview with The Cribs, brothers Ryan and Gary Jarman talk about some of the Fender guitars the use and love:
Gary: “Bass VI was like something of a legend for us, the guitar that we sort of fetishized for years. It was one of those things, we were always looking for those offset Fenders that hey used to make year ago that you never saw. We were really fascinated with it, when we found out what it did, we found out it was like a 6-string bass it was kind of like a guitar, it became the instrument that me and Ryan argue over all time, because Johnny had one - when we started playing with Johnny Marr, we would just jam on it at his house, and we wrote a bunch of songs on the 4th record on the baritone.”
Ryan: “We’ve actually just got one of the Pawn Shop ones as well now, so we’ve got one each.”
Gary: “I actually prefer this [Pawn Shop model of the Bass VI] to the 90s reissue, I think this one is more of a refined and updated version. The addition of the Jazzmaster pickup is cool too.”
Ryan: “Personally I like the Pawn Shop series of Fender guitars more than I’ve liked a lot of Fenders that have come out in recent years. It’s definitely my favorite period for Fender for quite a long time.”
Gary: “They’re almost in the same vein as those Mavericks and Swingers, where they would take guitars that already existed and modify them so it became a new thing. To us, that’s what we’re into, we’re not purists, we’re not into the conventional models, we like the weird stuff.”
Ryan: “Plus we’ve always taken our guitars and modded them ourselves anyway. Whether it’s like switching pickups out and stuff like that, making weird hybrids. It just seems cool to me… it just seems cool.”
Gary Jarman used a Fender Mustang Bass during the early years of The Cribs, around 2002-2004, as shown in a user-uploaded photo on TinyPic.
This is Gary Jarmans Signature bass that was custom made for him by Fender. He is seen playing it live at the Isle of White Festival in 2016.
Bass Player website cites 1973 Fender Precision Bass as Jarman's bass of choice.
Gary Jarman is confirmed to use the Fender Player Plus Active Meteora Bass Guitar, as evidenced by a post on Fender's official Instagram account, which features a performance by The Cribs using this specific gear.
