Gerald Casale's Gear
"Tonight I am jamming on a Ke[e] Bass that allegedly used to belong to @Gvc3Casale".
A reply from Jerry reads: "It did belong to Devo. It was very limited in a good way".
Bob Casale can be seen with it in the "Whip It" video, but I can't tell if it's on any Devo recordings
In this photo Gerald Casale can be seen using Gibson SG Black Bass, he used this bass guitar for a majority of 1977 Devo performances.
Gerald occasionally used a heavily modified Ripper with the horns sawed off called the "Spudbass"
In this promotional press photo for the album Freedom of Choice, you could see Gerald using the custom bass.
In a photo from the Forecastle Festival, Gerald Casale is pictured playing a Steinberger L2 bass guitar.
During the 1981 and 1982 Devo tours, Jerry used a custom double-decker Minimoog for his synth bass which was controlled by an external keyboard. The controller is pictured in the image; the synthesizer itself can be seen in this photo: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/28/bb/de/28bbde3c320b28ee36b689f7c3f44abe.jpg (it's above a regular Minimoog)
Ever since late 2012, Jerry has used a Roland Gaia SH-01 virtual analog for his synth bass.
Jerry used a Korg TR-61 for synth bass from 2007 to late 2012. The TR-61 replaced both Jerry's and his brother Bob Casale's aging Roland D-50s, which they had been using since 1988.
Jerry used a Minimoog for his synth bass during the 1980 Freedom of Choice tour.
Jerry playing a Roland D-50 (in 2005). Jerry used the D-50 for synth bass from 1988 to 2006.
In this YouTube video you can see Gerald Casale using a Maracas for the song "Midget" to give a more funk feeling to the song.
During an interview with Tape Op magazine in 2010, Jerry states; "We loved the sound of the Wasp and we were so excited about the Wasp that, in a suicide move, we used them onstage during the Duty Now for the Future tour. As soon as any drip of sweat from my head or hands hit this thing, it'd go 'Bleewwwdawablawdwa!' I wouldn't be touching it, and it would be playing. Everybody on stage would be looking at me and I'm like, 'But I'm not playing it.'"
In the official video for "Time Out For Fun" by DEVO, Jerry has a Roland SH-101 with the keytar grip attachment slung over his shoulder to pantomime the song's synth bassline
