Hans Zimmer's Studio Equipment
This image is of Hans' studio, and straight ahead in front of the chair you can see the LMK4+. At :30s of this video you can also see the LMK4+ to the right of Hans.
Hans Zimmer has used this keyboard during a recording session.
Zimmer uses FireWire-connected MOTU 828s in his studio. “The 828s actually work very well. They’ve come a long way from where they started,” he adds. At Media Ventures, he uses Apogees for audio conversion.
After the recordings had been edited, instruments were programmed for Hans' sampler of choice at the time, Roland's S760, which wasn't a bad option, considering that each unit took only 1U of rack space and Hans needed over 30 of them to play back the orchestra.
This photo by Trey Ratcliff of Hans Zimmer's studio shows 10 Digidesign 192 Digital I/O in the rack. It's the older Digidesign IO, because of the whit-ish colour. The newer version "Avid" has dark grey colour.
Hans Zimmer's Apogee BIG BEN 192k Master Digital Clock is in the rack directly above the ten Digidesign 192HDs.
On this picture we can see the controller behind Zimmer.
Seen on the other side of his desk directly in front of the DP at 0:30. Could possibly be used by production crew as it is quite popular with location mixers for use in locations with AC power.
In this video, Hans Zimmer says "The seaboard is really interesting because I think musicians, by nature, are experimental."
Throughout countless scores, Macs have long been a staple in Zimmer’s arsenal of tools. “We have loads of Macs and we have loads of PCs,” he says. But he keeps four Power Mac G4s close at hand in his home studio. “I think the Mac is really intuitive,” he adds. “It feels solid.”

He is using the Avid S6M40 console with: Master Touch Module x1, S6 Automation Module x1, S6 Post Module x1, S6 Fader Module x6, S6 Knob Module x6, S6 process Module x6, S6 Display Module x6. No visible S6 Joystick module for 5.1 or Atmos
Hans is well known for having created his own private collection of sampled orchestral instruments, and the core of this library was originally recorded back in 1994 onto eight-track digital Tascam DA88 format.
"It's all going through a Euphonix System 5. But, at the same time, everything in Cubase is really going through your stuff, the UAD plug-ins. I've actually become very particular about what I use these days. There are so many plug-ins around, especially soft synths, that you’ll never get any music written with all the tinkering. So I've really limited myself now to just a few that I think sound really good at their core."
Photo of Hans Zimmer performing live circa 2014. Based on this shape, size and the configuration of the input/output jacks, power button, etc., his keyboard is a Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol S61 MK1.
Hans Zimmer is seen with the Solid State Logic UF8 on his desk in the video "Hans Zimmer presents THE LEGEND HZ Synthesizer" by Kevin Schroeder on YouTube.
Hans Zimmer uses the Solid State Logic UC1, as evidenced by its presence on his desk in the video "Hans Zimmer presents THE LEGEND HZ Synthesizer," authored by Kevin Schroeder on YouTube.
Hans Zimmer has the Expressive E Touché on his desk in this video.
