J.D. Simo's Amplifiers
At 1:30 he mentions using a Blackface Fender, later at just before 2:30 J.D. confirms he was talking about both a Super Reverb or Deluxe Reverb.
Now I tend to use an old Super Reverb or a Deluxe Reverb. I’ve also got these old Epiphone Futuras, Michael Bloomfield used them when he played with Bob Dylan in the 60s. It’s the shittiest sounding amp you’ve ever heard but it’s amazing. I leave the wobbly tremolo on the Epiphone on all the time and turn the reverb and tremolo on the Fender off and on using the stock footswitch.
JD explains that he uses an old '69 Basketweave Marshall 4x12 Cab, with 2 Celestion Greenback speakers, and two Weber CV-123 (Cerwin Vega copy) speakers. He got "turned on" to the Cerwin Vega's because that's what he heard Duane Allman used in his cabs
JD has an old Silvertone 1484 at his home studio given to him/ left by ex SIMO bassist, Frank Swart. Supposedly when he isn't using the big Marshall, he's using this. Although on his recent 2016 tour, JD has been using more Fender amps.
"It's in the rarest color that they ever made...This actually belongs to a friend of mine who's been gracious enough to let me borrow it for the past few years," says J.D. Simo, at 1:08 in this interview, about his 1967 Marshall Superlead.
