James Hetfield's Music Accessories
In this Dunlop advertisement, James Hetfield references using the Tortex .88mm picks by saying:
Master of Puppets? Cut it and it would bleed Tortex green.
James has this strap on most of his guitars
In this video by Dunlop, at 0:37 Hetfield compares his new White Fang siganture pick to his older Black Fang model.
In this promotional video from Dunlop, James says,
We basically wanted to improve the Black Fang, so we came up with the White Fang. The White Fang is more like the Flow meets the Black Fang, so size wise, it's a slight bit smaller. Smooth this through a knife edge, I can glide on the strings super fast. New materials that stand up a lot longer, basically lasts longer on stage. The other difference from this (Black Fang) is it has the texturing, the grip, which I love and got used to on the Flow. With the size, easy to hang on to. Fast, sleek, and easy to grip. And easy to see when you throw it out into the crowd. White Fang, baby!
In Quebec Magnetic show we can see some picks of James's collection in his Mic Stand
James Hetfield used the Jim Dunlop Solid Strap D3809 Black while performing as a guest with Alice in Chains at Rock am Ring in 2006, during the song "Would." This can be verified in the YouTube video "Alice in Chains with James Hetfield - Would Live 2006 HD" by Diego Flanklim.
Red Monkey has been building James Hetfield's straps for over ten years.
James Hetfield used the Red Monkey Custom Shop Seek and Destroy Grammy Edition White Stitch guitar strap during his performance with Lady Gaga at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards on February 12, 2017. This performance of “Moth Into Flame” with Metallica is documented in official broadcast footage and widely circulated live content, which clearly shows Hetfield wearing the strap. The event was particularly memorable due to technical difficulties when Hetfield's microphone failed, requiring him to share Gaga's mic seamlessly. This strap was designed for stability and balance, making it suitable for high-pressure performances on major stages.
