In this photo, John Frusciante can be seen playing a Martin D-18 (it is not a D-28 as there is no white binding around the body). This same guitar can be seen in John Frusciante's bedroom on the documentary "Funky Monks", filmed during the recording of "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" (see at 57:05 on this link : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Z3Gnbgjq0M). This Martin D-18 is therefore possibly the instrument used during the recording of the song "I Could Have Lied". It is possible to notice that the bridge pin of the G string on this guitar is white while the others are black ; this bridge pin was certainly swapped with one of the bridge pin of the 12-strings guitar used by John Frusciante during the recording of the song "Breaking The Girl" (this 12-strings guitar has 11 white bridge pins and 1 black bridge pin as you can see in the photo of this link : https://www.groundguitar.com/john-frusciante-gear/john-frusciantes-12-string-acoustic-breaking-the-girl).

John Frusciante has been using the Shure BLX14 BLX Wireless Guitar System since his return to the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2022 during the Unlimited Love era. This equipment choice is evident in live photos from various tours since 1998, where he is consistently seen without traditional guitar cables, opting instead for the practicality and comfort of different wireless setups. The transmitter of this system operates solely on batteries. The proof of this can be seen in the image available on Equipboard.

This stratocaster was not used many times but John said he bought 15 different strats some originals some reissues around this period in late 1989 to 1990.

Another strat that looks like its from 56 or 57 can be seen here on 24:13 (Red Hot Chili Peppers 1989-09-28 Big Surf Waterpark, Tempe), but can be really any standard strat with maple neck small headstock. This white strat is one of 15 strats Frusciante purchased in late 1989.

This Stratocaster had gold hardware, probably one that Frusciante used on BSSM seen on clips while recording solo for Mellowship Slinky (while recording Mellowship frets were already taken out as John didnt like new frets that were put on refreting after 1990 tour). This is cca 59 60 strat (not the same strat John used on BSSM tour 1991 1992).

On BSSM tour 1991/92 Frusciante had 4 Fender Stratocasters , 1965-3 tone ( first time seen on this tour ), 1970-3 tone (used from 1989 after 1968 strat was stolen), his most used 1960 - faded red 3 tone as seen on SNL 92 and Canal Studios France 92 and this Candy Apple Red used rarely.

During the most recent European leg of the Unlimited Love tour in 2022, John Frusciante was seen using a Lekato Air Cell Wide Guitar Strap, with the logo removed. This marked a departure from his usual preference for straps by Ernie Ball and Guitar Center/Levy’s. The Lekato strap is recognized for its moisture-wicking neoprene sponge padding, which helps reduce shoulder fatigue—an especially practical choice for long performances. It was also observed that John now wears his guitars higher than usual, possibly influenced by the Lekato strap’s design. Unlike many other straps, it’s not highly adjustable, even at its maximum length, which might explain the shift in his guitar positioning. This information is supported by a visual proof in the source image provided.
