at 2:35 seconds Lee Malia talks about how instead of having so many guitars for the numerous tunings, It would be possible to pitch shift on the Quad Cortex instead, but Lee Malia insists he likes the sound of the instrument down-tuned, over digitally doing so. Therefore Lee and his techs have switched over to a cab-less, Quad Cortex setup for live shows.

In this video, Lee Malia discusses his signature LM-87 guitar from Jackson. He says:
So the inspiration behind this is I've always liked offset guitars, I've played them for a while now. I saw a picture of an old Surfcaster that Charvel made, and then I spoke to Jackson to see if they could make me a one-off Jackson version. Mike Shannon built me a couple of one-off versions of this, basically, and they were like perfect. It was that easy, he got it right the first time.
The looks and stuff, I kind of like guitars that don't just appeal to metal players and stuff like that. That's why I like the P-90 and the humbucker not being super hot like an EMG or an active pickup because I like that you can do a lot of different tones with these pickups. And then a pretty classic build like scale-length wise and neck thickness and stuff. Nothing too crazy.
Lee Malia used the Fender Gold Foil Telecaster live for one of the songs during the So Much For (Tour) Dust tour, and others that followed, including L.I.V.E. in São Paulo, as confirmed by a photo he shared on Instagram on July 15, 2023.
