Matt Hodges' Gear
In the video Palace's Matt Hodges - GEAR MASTERS Ep. 464, at 1:35 Matt Hodges talks about his Istanbul Agop 16" Cindy Blackman OM Signature Crash Cymbal:
It's very quick, it's got a quick decay but it sounds awesome. I've got this little chain on here to give it some more resonance it sort of rings out a little bit more. It just sounds pretty cool and kind of complements the sound of the other cymbals cuz it's a little bit different, these [other cymbals] are more washy, this is much quicker...

At 3:00 into this video Palace's Matt Hodges - GEAR MASTERS Ep. 464 Matt Hodges discusses his Tama Iron Cobra pedal:
So the kick pedal I've got here is my own - it's a Tama Iron Cobra. I've had it a really long time. It's just nice to be super familiar with the spring tension and all the settings on it. So when I play it, it always feels consistent and the same. I always travel with my pedal. I've added this little strip of skateboard grip tape on top, which just adds a little bit of grip, which is cool. And yeah, I've been playing this pedal a long time, so just super familiar.
At 3:30 into this video Matt Hodges shows his Promark Classic Forward DrumSticks, Hickory, 5A, Wood Tip:
I've got these Pro Mark 5As - pretty standard, to be honest. But the Pro Mark ones just feel a little... they're just a great weight, so they feel really nice to play. But yeah, nothing too out of the ordinary - pretty standard, but they feel great.
At 3:51 into this video Palace's Matt Hodges - GEAR MASTERS Ep. 464, Matt Hodges details his use of Promark Hot Rods:
And then I use a [Promark] Hot Rod for a couple of songs on the hi-hat, just to make it a bit lighter, a bit softer. I keep a regular stick on the snare and a Hot Rod on the hi-hat, just for a bit of variation.
At 4:06 into the video Palace's Matt Hodges - GEAR MASTERS Ep. 464, Matt Hodges talks about his Roland SPD-SX Sampling Pad, which accompanies his drum kit:
For electronics, I've got an SPD here, but I really just use it for triggering a couple songs in the set. We've got some atmospheric noises, so I trigger those in a song and play with the metronome to make sure they come in at the right points. I don’t use the pads for any drum sounds - it's purely for triggering noises in a couple of songs. The way it's set up, I have two WAV files: one for the metronome and one for the music. They're both triggered to start at the same time when I hit one of the pads. So I don’t use the metronome built-into the SPD and I don't have it coming from front of house - I trigger it here, the WAVs are saved onto here so they trigger at the same time.
At 4:47 of the video Palace's Matt Hodges - GEAR MASTERS Ep. 464, Matt Hodges talks about how he uses the Behringer Xenyx 1002 mixer:
This is a little Behringer mixing desk that I use for my ears. I don’t have wireless ears - mine are wired and go right here. So I’m plugged in with everything drilled into my brain. I’ve got all the sound of the band, the backing tracks on the SPD, as well as the click track coming into my ears. I can control the click track level right here, so I can change it if it’s feeling a bit intense or whatever. I can control the volume of the click here, and then I’ve got my input for the sound of the rest of the band here and the master volume here.
