Speaker Honey's Gear

In the Sonic Academy course "Speaker Honey Is This The Ending Walkthrough," Speaker Honey uses the Nicky Romero Kickstart Sidechain Compression Plugin as an efficient and user-friendly alternative to traditional sidechain compression, as demonstrated in Tutorial 03 - Kick and Bass.

In this video, Speaker Honey uses Trackspacer to let the kickdrum shine through by ducking certain low end frequencies of the bass. By the looks of it, it does so by acting as a sidechain EQ. Similar, yet also different, plugins would be the Waves F6 or the Ozone Dynamic EQ, and the effect can be achieved by adjusting threshold and range (decrease in volume), ducking the bass when the kick hits. Yet, perhaps there is more magic to the plugin, other than just sidechain EQing.

During the "Kick and Bass" episode on Sonic Academy, Speaker Honey demonstrates how she used Kick 2 size up her kick drum by adding a high-pitched "click". Not only can the plugin be used to make whole, fully usable kicks, but it can also be used complementary to an ordinary kick sample, ranging low to high, from a sub note to a click.

To fatten up the synth lead for the song "is This the Ending?", Speaker Honey uses OneKnob Phatter right after the Aphex Aural Exciter in order to scale up the low end, matching it to the newly added high end. OneKnob Pumper is also used in another video to create a sort of sidechain compressior feeling, ducking the audio at certain intervals.
