Steve Marriott's Guitars
In this picture, Steve Marriott poses with his 1960/1961 Gretsch G6121. It features thumbnail inlays and a horse shoe on the headstock. During his years with Small Faces, he would have it repainted many times exept for the orange headstock. It can be seen in white in many videos with the band.
In 1966, Steve Marriott started to play a sunburst Fender Telecaster. It is clearly seen here from the biggning of the clip throughout the performance of "Itchycoo Park" in1967. For a period in 1967, Steve played this guitar without the neck pickup (as seen here) and later it was replaced by a P90 pickup.
In a clip of the Small Faces performing at the Marquee Club, Steve Marriott plays a Gretsch G6120 Tennessean guitar with fake f-holes. The guitar is clearly seen at 1:35.
In this photograph from Thank Your Lucky Stars, circa 1967, Steve Marriott is seen with an acoustic-electric Gibson J-160E.
On the front cover of the Humble Pie album “Live ‘81” Steve has a 1971 Custom black Gibson Les Paul with a cream white pick-guard and gold trim/hardware. The humbucker plates are removed.
In this lip-synced performance of "Itchycoo Park" on Beat-Club in 1967, Steve Marriott is seen using a Gibson ES-335 with block inlays and without a pickguard.
In this photo here, Steve is using a Gibson Les Paul guitar
In this YouTube video at 1:15, Steve Marriott can be using Epiphone FT-110 Frontier. Judging by the pointed pickguard with rope & cactus design, it is the 1963-1964 version of the Epiphone FT-110 Frontier.
used a lot during the early days of humble pie. you can hear it in this live performance of "I Don't Need No Doctor" live at The Forum in 1973
Steve Marriott is confirmed to have used a 1957 Gibson Les Paul Custom "Black Beauty" as his main guitar during his tenure with Humble Pie and throughout his later career until his passing in 1991. He modified the guitar by removing the middle PAF humbucker pickup, covering the route hole with a tortoise-shell plate, and changing the black plastic parts to white. This information is supported by footage from the YouTube source "midnightspecial," which documents his performance with the instrument.
Steve Marriott is confirmed to use the Ibanez Artist 2629, as he is featured in an advertisement for the guitar.
