Tim Wheeler's Guitars
Used in a number of early videos and live gigs including TV appearances on Big Rickety Wheel and MTV's Hanging Out
Tim's main guitar for live shows is his Flying V as you can see in the image.
"The SG is amazing, I love how light it is and how well it plays. It's got that fat sound – I love the sound of Gibson humbuckers. I love it so much that I try to use it for everything! It's just so comfortable."
It’s the guitar that I pretty much record everything with, my 1960s Les Paul Custom Black Beauty, with three PAFs. It’s become my main workhorse guitar – it’s too posh to bring on tour, but when I’m in the studio it’s my main one. I don’t know what I’d do if something disastrous happened to it… actually, I’d probably just go and buy a Custom Shop reissue!
I had a really nice 1976 Fender Mustang, blue with the racing stripe, but it got lost in a studio to move in the 90s. I bought it in New Orleans on tour, and I think I used it in the Life Less Ordinary video. I wish it was still around, but I’ve never bought another Mustang!
In this video Tim can be seen using a Black Gibson Les Paul Standard.
I’ve already got a nice Goldtop ’57 Reissue as a backup – I just love Les Pauls, and the sound of humbuckers.
In an interview with Guitar.com, Tim Wheeler of Ash reflects on a missed opportunity to purchase a late-50s Gibson ES-335 from Angel Music, previously owned by Peter Green and reputedly used to record "Albatross." Wheeler expresses regret for not buying it, wishing he had spent the extra money.
At various points in this music video for "Angel Interceptor" from 1995, first at 00:15, Tim Wheeler can be seen using a cherry red Gibson SG Junior.
In the YouTube video titled "Tim Wheeler (Ash) - My MESA/Boogie Story," at the 1:12 mark, Tim Wheeler is clearly seen playing a Gibson Explorer Electric Guitar.
