Richard Manuel's Gear
In this photo of Manuel with his gear, the white version of Mu-Tron Bi-Phase pedal is visible in this photo.
Manuel played a Hohner Pianet throughout the 1970s with The Band.
This site contains additional info and pictures regarding Manuel's use of the Pianet:
I think that, of the albums I have (Music from Big Pink, The Band, Stage Fright, Cahoots, Rock of Ages, Moondog Matinee, Northern Lights-Southern Cross, and The Last Waltz), the Pianet appears in only four songs: "King Harvest (Has Surely Come)," "Caledonia Mission," "Get Up Jake," and "The Shape I'm In" on Rock of Ages. (The Pianet has an effect applied to it for "King Harvest (Has Surely Come)" and "The Shape I'm In," ostensibly the Mu-Tron.)
"The Pianet's keys are pretty much all that's visible of it in the picture above (a Mu-Tron Bi-phase and what I believe is an ARP Pro-Soloist are stacked on top of it). "
In the picture, Richard Manuel (Far right,) is playing an upright model Steinway and Sons piano. This picture was taken during the recording of The Band’s self titled album in 1969.
Richard Manuel is playing a Model L “Baby grand piano” in this photo.
Bill Payne describes the piano and the story of it in depth in this article: https://boogiewoogieblog.com/post/46804649394/bill-payne-on-richard-manuels-piano/amp
In the video titled "The Band - The Last Waltz Credits/Outro," filmed at the MGM soundstage, Richard Manuel is seen playing a 1930 Regal Company Chicago Dobro. In an accompanying interview, Richard mentions possessing a certificate for Hawaiian guitar, providing additional context for his expertise and interest in resonator guitars.
While Manuel usually played a Hohner Pianet N with The Band, he appears to have played a Hohner Cembalet N at the legendary Last Waltz performance. This photo from before the concert shows a Cembalet on the right (the keys on a Cembalet range from C to C, while the keys on a Pianet range from F to F).
