I find the 2 octave size ideal for basslines, playing out beats and for work out chord progressions. The knobs are useful when assigned in Ableton Live. I really like the default controller settings in Reason 5, very functional for sure.

Had these since 2005. I know their sound inside out. Very sturdy and a 'flat' response. Mixes do still need to be checked over other systems.

Amazing for recording acoustic instruments, foley samples, and can record a variety of singing voices nicely. I tried a slightly lower-priced Seinheiser which sounded very tinny, brittle. I've owned several Rode-NT2a's now. Suspension mount snapped annoyingly on this latest one but purchased a budget alternative and it is perfect. You can replace the mount with Rode's dedicated suspension mount if you want.

I use mine to record tunes. Not too bad if you are mainly producing alternative stuff and don't mind having to retune fairly regularly. I love the low-grade tone and rough feel of the thing.
