Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass Review 2023 - Premier Guitar

premierguitar.com

Squier's Vintage Modified Jaguar bass delivers a compelling combination of solid construction and impressive tones, making it a strong contender for beginner and intermediate players alike. While its agathis body and dual pickups produce a balanced sound, the control knobs can feel a bit loose and limit tonal flexibility. The short scale version offers a warmer low end, though it may lack some punch in the high frequencies. Ultimately, these basses are great for those seeking affordable, reliable instruments that can hold their own on stage or in the studio, but purists may find them lacking in some nuanced tonal aspects.

Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass Special SS review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Squier Jaguar Vintage Modified Special Bass offers good playability and a decent range of tones, making it an attractive option for beginner and practice settings. Its short scale design ensures a lightweight feel, but it does compromise on build quality, with visible cost-cutting in materials and components. While the sound is generally solid, some quality control issues, such as a loose tuner, detract from the overall experience. For the price, it serves its purpose well, but potential buyers should try multiple units to find a reliable one. At £187, it’s a fair deal, but be prepared for some trade-offs.

Do not DIY unless you are experienced

I give this instrument 5 stars, it's affordable, versatile, feels and plays great.

The manufacturer has removed the electronics schematics from their website, and this instrument has a proprietary 4 knob active control panel (the active knob controlling bass boost). I had to use a poor angle of a youtube video and a whole lot of good karma to solder the electronics back together after I put a different finish on the bass.

The Squier Jaguar Bass SS is a wonderful instrument...

I played a show this year with the short scale Fender Squire Jaguar Bass and will continue to play it often. I really enjoy playing it. The stock instrument is lightweight and the sound is spectacular. Other than perhaps upgrading the pickups at some point, this instrument is perfect out of the box.

Squier but great sound

Sounds badass on a recording, especially with both pickups at once. Cuts through a mix real well and sounds awesome.
