another mystery genre song, AWESOME! HEARITBITCHES!

The acoustic is an elephant in the room with the warped processing flooding everything else. Gorillaz Feel Good Inc. kinda moment in a song that is full of drive and power and pound and doesn't need a Feel Good kinda moment.

Well, it is still very identifiable as an acoustic. Maybe throw an underlying mirror track with 100% wet reverse reverb and some jet flanging or fuzz phasing...not to replace the acoustic, but to give it filth and some real presence. REEEEAL slow sweep

You've poured fx on the mix like honey and wax on kinky sex, but you've left that acoustic naked.

Treat it til it's mistreated.

I am 5'7 and span 1st - 6th fret on an acoustic.

Mustangs are popular with girls and small handed folk. Shorter scale traditionally. Maybe something a bass player would notice as uncomfortable more readily.

you might want to invest in something more rewarding to play... what's your max budget?

This is good advice! The packs are built essentially to attract the entry level player, who will love it and think it is all great, until they get to try other gear. Then they will go sour to your ears.

Buy to your budget surely but regardless of appearance, if you buy something you LOVE, you will play more, longer and with more enthusiasm.

And if you can afford $500, make sure you try something priced at $550 or even $600. Most items in stores have a bit of play in what they charge versus what they are willing to sell for.

Most importantly, buy what YOU love. Not what they are trying to sell to you. If they push a particular instrument and list a thousand reasons why, tell them you need to think about it and leave. Grab a snack or a drink and Google the one they offered and read all reviews you can find. Often they sell what they need to sell sadly not considering what YOU may want or need.

Yep he's the one. He throws blogs up on facebook talking through cool builds and mods he does or has done. Wealth of knowledge genius, really open to communicating.

The OD-1. Original overdrive. The SD-1 super overdrive is trying too hard to be different from the original and doesn't honour what it sets out to do.

I should go have a chat to Tym and see what he reckons. Tym guitars is just up the road about an hour away.

Colorsound Octivider info

I have a friend who has recently enjoyed working with the old 1974 Colorsound Octivider. From what I have been able to source, they are rather unique with their effect being introduced through sensitivity and string attack, providing an organ like single octave drop. I have found no evidence that supports any clones being made.

Can anyone provide any information on what may be recognised clones, other than the schematic that is floating around?

Thanks in advance,

Tel.

Looks to be! The standard neck meets the top horn at 15th fret. The OP meets at 17th.

Identifying the gear

I only help ID stuff. It is kinda fun seeing how quickly I can do it. If I find a gear shot and cannot ID something I would ask for help. I didn't go on to list it on an artists page.

I think when artist gear is nominated and submitted, you list a link as to where it was sourced. People should be able to follow this link and match to a timeframe or recording history of that artist. Hopefully.

Best Way to Shop for Basses

Firstly, have a read of my review on my Equipboard of my Epiphone acoustic. A buyer's story.

(In short, go in eyes closed and chose the one that feels and sounds best.)

Having a quick stalk of your page, likes and gear, the artists you follow seem to like fender stuff. That sounds like a decent direction for a start....

I think the Starcaster would be a mistake for you, the distortion and the f-holes are not always compatible. I love the Jag basses, or a good P or Jazz bass, plenty of punch and throat.

Maybe a Schecter could give you a slightly different feel... or an older Yamaha...

If we are talking big spend.. or bigger spend... what about a Rickenbacker 4001 or 4003? There are offshoots about, but will feel like offshoots.

How Can I Get This tone?

Remember that he uses zvex fuzz factories and has them built into some guitars. It stands to reason that this could be his go to fuzz because he knows it backwards.

My new song is ready for Vocals, YOU NEED TO HEAR THIS

That has polished up nicely sir, you should be smiling at this one.

I have noticed a distinct lack of cymbals... my head keeps hearing washed out heavy 'verbed crashes at the turn of each phrase... obvious exclusion?

So glad you got a vocalist, was about to pen you a set of lines that were to sound like a Robert Smith and Billy Corgan duet!

I have a grunge cover of a Bananarama song done by two guys and a drum machine, but it isn't recent... and the title is Recent Cover Songs.

In saying you are trying to solve what cannot be solved, you should understand that you cannot fail that which cannot be failed.

You are you. The world you create and the way you work with your surroundings is unique to you. Some may like it, others may not.

So what?

Be yourself. The music you create is yours and how you weave your love of music need only appeal to your own ears. let the rest of the world find you and let those who like your ways, love what you do.

Maybe his actions a spawning a new direction for hope for livemusic.

If crowds become tolerant of watching one person kick pedals to make music play and construct the song live on stage, perhaps the future of live music relies on someone with the musical instincts of a DJ or MC walking along and kicking animatronic versions of famous musicians no longer with us or grown too old to play and we can see live reenactments of Rolling Stones, Beach boys, doors and Beatles songs....
