Whorse - Practice (Original Mix)

http://grahamphisher.com/photos/PRACTICE.jpg

DUBRMX present's "Practice" from artist Whorse ?, a cinematic like 90 BPM (G) trap banger, featuring sub pounding 808's, a thick dubstep / future bass like bassline, glitched ambient female vocals, and various elegant arpeggios.

Which controller ?

I just got my minilab mkII a few days ago, and I love it,

http://i.imgur.com/qNNfWq8.jpg

the keys have a nice push back

pads are very responsive

pitch n mod wheel that work by touch

countless sturdy knobs to assign to whatever the hell you want

takes usb b type no micro or mini bs that always comes loose

comes with software (midi controller center) to really customize everything above the keys to your liking

comes with analog lab 2 lite, where you get to access to a buttload of presets from their amazing analog emulation work over the years with the knobs already pre programmed so you can edit the settings. and the librarian inside of it is top notch.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0L-YztcK1f4

filter sweep of some strings on the p08.

I think its roughness brings a beautiful edge to it, they're are just so many people i talked to who owned a p08 and they all told me they returned it within a week, and I'm just like...

Arturia DrumBrute Analog Drum Machine

yea I'm gonna get the pulse 2 instead... just re-arranged my setup for it.

figure it'd be good to have a 3 osc synth n another synth tht works really well on low ends which the original pulse has a reputation for and seems like the pulse 2 as well, and paraphonic mode is a big plus. 500 presets right out the box will be able to easily find a starting point for a sound. plus a choice of 3 different third party vst editors.

the drumbrute would be nice if I was using a large analog mixer (I like to do a lotta individual processing on sounds.)

i had my eyes on this guy too

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaLuT9knpYs

most of the volca series besides the FM sound like toys, but this new guy seems pretty powerful.

Was a good deal, someone already bought it for asking price last night, and shipped this afternoon.

Focusrite Audio Interface For Sale

Can't get anymore travel like than this guy, not too big not too small, no knobs pointing out (little risk of anything getting loose or knocked off), and rugged tough metal body.

lowest I'd be willing to go is 100$, and your not gonna find a better deal than that for the 6i6 in perfect working condition w/ free shipping. Most are going for $130+ used

Equipment I Once Had

I like leaving everything on, even when I no longer have it (just as a artist) cus they were the tools that were used to create my music, and I think thats the whole point of equipboard, you come onto here to figure out what makes your favorite artist's sound. the once had is a nice idea but it just muddies things up, n with web dev less is usually more.

Earthquaker?

0:25 <3, this is why im getting a avalanche run.

I had my eyes on the afterneath too tho, such a sick epic verb and I could see myself using it on some melodic hits over a dark subby techno track, or during break downs as a foundation for the rest of the melodics.

Arturia DrumBrute Analog Drum Machine

https://media.sweetwater.com/images/items/750/DrumBrute-large.jpg

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DrumBrute

Gonna get this for xmas, or maybe a Waldorf Pulse 2 if the reviews about the Drumbrute remain steadily positive, already bought a Focusrite 18i8 so i can expand my analog arsenal. Super psyched about this drum machine, I mean face it off against DSI's Tempest, the control over the sound might be a lot more dynamic on the tempest but holy shit a analog drum machine under a 500$ that doesn't sound like complete shit like Korg Beats or Akai Rhythm Wolf, this guy really gives the Tempest a run for its money and at a lil less than quarter of the price.

off topic, i hate all the roland botique series.

Too Short X ProHoeZak

Yea exactly man why the hell not. What do you mean tho?

Anyways my bad I mispoke meant to say not much of a market for "bay area hip hop on vinyl" most of what's still out there in that category is unsold and still in bulk from way back in the hyphy movement in 04-07. There's a huge market tho for any hip hop on sc. Ever since fetty wap was using soundcloud as one of his main tools for promotion, it is one of the top ranking hip hop sites on the web.

10yalmost 10 years ago

Too Short X ProHoeZak

are you on beatport or are you old school, pressing vinyl?

not sure how much of a market there is for bay area hip hop n vinyl, but were on beatport yea, plus a lotta other digital stores, and streaming services.

i know all my music is on tidal, spotify, itunes, amazon, n all tht.

Too Short X ProHoeZak

Just put a track out on my label with two Bay Area, California Legends, Too Short, and ProHoeZak, check it out if you want (i feel like its a big deal for me, since the label is finally starting to attract larger artists.)

http://grahamphisher.com/video/phz/hreahaehraeja.jpg

DUBRMX present's ProHoeZak's debut smacker on the label, "Lean Back" featuring Too $hort.

https://soundcloud.com/dubrmx/too-short-prohoezak-lean-back

also got about 5 other artists on my label working on remixes for a "remix ep".

Yea of course, this is genuinely good. No worries take your time and keep us posted.

Progress sounding good. I loved the chopped vocal sample at the start of the last clip, it gave it some urgency. But it wasn't present in this last version. Maybe just a different part of the track?

thanks, yea its a different part of the track (that clip starts in the middle of a drop).

Everything I Had

Hey Whorse, wat'd you use to make your piano sound? It has a really nasty, artificial quality that is growing on me and I think I am going to create some loops from that track to add in...

but I have a piano one-line lick in one section mirroring the FM synth line without the portamento and I would like to make the piano part match your sound.... is it Nexus maybe?

yes nexus, as for other remixes yea i got a new track im working on thtll post up, n send u the stems when its done

Drum Machine through guitar amp?

welp, either way, guitar amps are not designed for a low Z signal nor are they voiced for full range material, but ool results may be had.... yes the kick drum could be hard on your speakers, no it will not run your tubes down, especially not in a cathode biased amp.... the bias scheme in your laney runs the tubes plenty ahrd even with no signal coming in at 'idle', there's barely a difference in tube wear regardless of whatis or isn't being played through the circuit (preamp tubes are always biased in this basic way and run all on, all the time).... your speaker is another story. Every guitar speaker handles big bass transients differently and if you intend to blast it loud you may damage your speaker.... or not. tough to say.... is the speaker rated for at least twice the RMS wattage of the amp?

interesting read

Everything I Had

(had a rough week ended up fucking some shit up while taking shrooms for the first time inbetween me and this girl, the shrooms were fun but i thought since she was a traditional art chick she'd be more open minded about "experimentation" but she wasn't, whatever tho because whenever i feel down i think i always do my best work to pull me up.)

work in progress, this is mainly a all analog piece, but I used nexus for the strings, piano, and choir.

only spent 8 hours on it so far.

FL Studio Mix Template

http://i.imgur.com/0rCRb6D.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/zdfatsS.jpg

This is a simple mix template I programmed that's heavily automated and makes it easy to just jump in and make music, all the music I've done was with using this template all I really have to do is adjust channel volumes for when it comes to mixing.

-all channels duck to the kick, basic kick compression and eq'ing applied

-all low end frequencies on all channels duck when bass hits including a "bass sub" channel that ducks all low end frequencies while ducking for the primary bass channel so you can easily stack basses, including a extra bass channel that's best used for break downs

-2 synth channels with stereo imaging

-another synth channel with wider stereo imaging ideal for pads / strings

-a open hi hat channel next to a closed hi hat channel where high end frequencies duck whenever the open hi hat hits

-snare clap channel with stereo imaging, and basic eq'ing

-a percussion channel with eq'ing and wide stereo imaging

-a cymbal channel with eq'ing and wide stereo imaging

-sub channel with 3xosc already loaded so you can easily add low end to your track, this channel also knocks down the low end of all other channels.

-noise great for easily turning any "white noise" into a nice cool sweep

-a vocal channel with optional vocal boost

-a vocoder channel already pre-configured

-a extra channel for anything else you might need with optional stereo imaging boost or super width boost

-4 LFO's that can be easily activated at the click of a button that are also controlled by "Gross Beat" so you can do crazy automation on synths with a couple clicks

-a hall kick channel great for break downs also nice because you can just take the kick your using for the groove and turn it into a impact.

-Reverb send channel with stereo imaging, and or spacial boost

-delay send channel with a wide stereo image to really fill your tracks out and optional crazy delay

-liquid delay send channel with stereo imaging with a optional wetter setting

-and a ambient reverb send channel with optional echo setting

template is easy to customize and adjust if there isn't something you like, lotta channels have optional plugins that weren't activated and can help you easily mix.

Once downloaded you can just open it and go to work, or you can install it by dropping all files in the zip into

C:\Program Files (x86)\Image-Line\FL Studio 11\Data\Projects\Templates\Other

(Also works with FL Studio 12, I just don't use 12 because I hate the UI.)

Whorse - Freak (Volume One)

Very cool, thanks for sharing. Just downloaded, it'll be my soundtrack tomorrow. Will share my thoughts on it after a couple listens :)

hey thtd be super cool :D

you might not know it but i watch the stats / web traffic of this site, and I'm very impressed, i mean the whole concept is just a "A+" for pulling traffic in from search engines. I use to manage / own a art forum that had a quarter million + members, and would just collect checks from google ad sense, I was young though (15-19) and didn't make back ups and getting into weird shit so "splat". a hard lesson.
