ESP CUSTOM M-1 BRUCE KULICK SIGNATURE SUPERSTRAT
"October’s KISS Guitar of the Month, is a beautiful white metal flake finish Custom M-1 ESP. It was first used for the HITS Tour, without the tortoise shell pick guard. By the time of the Revenge Tour, the guard was added. It features a chrome Floyd Rose, Duncan pickup, Rosewood fingerboard, and the large style “hockey stick” headstock from that era. Listen to the biting tone in my video, as heard on stage and in the studio (used on the song Unholy, Revenge LP) and featured as well on KISS Alive III. In many ways, its related my Banana M-1 from ESP as well. An excellent guitar that screams KISSTORY"
ESP 48st Custom Bruce Kulick Signature Les Paul Standard
48st Custom anniversary guitar by ESP. It was made for Bruce Kulick and used by him in Hot In The Shade and Revenge tours (Kiss). Gained fame for the music video for the song God Gave Rock And Roll To You
Avg price: $4,999.99
"Revenge club tour photo! Same guitar as the Unholy video, a yellow Gibson V-90. One pickup. I let it go as it was missing some “tone”. Paul’s shirt was also from Unholy video! #kisstory #kissrevenge #paulstanley #brucekulick #genesimmons #ericsinger #gibson #flyingv"
Studio Equipment used by Bruce Kulick on Revenge
"I brought my ancient EchoPlex, made by Maestro, and it is an old tube one. Got it when KISS was doing Revenge, as a studio called AMIGO was going out of business and they had a fire sale. Great find, as it is such a cool sound. Tubes make things warm and fuzzy we say, and it just gave that track a great tone."
Effects Pedals used by Bruce Kulick on Revenge
MXR MX-104 Distortion + (Vintage Model - Block Logo)
Avg price: $98.16
"Jeremy and I set up some pedals and auditioned the various guitars. BTW, I broke out the old MXR distortion plus from REVENGE! The wah was my GEEK modified Hendrix pedal, and plugged into my old Marshall head." - also, when clicked on a photo, vintage MXR Distortion + can be seen indeed.
Harmonizer & Octave Effects Pedals
Avg price: $214.95
"If we played the song live, playing the solo would be torture for me. My new toy was the then fashionable Whammy by Digitech guitar pedal. I added it to my arsenal on the advice of producer Toby Wright because I was looking for a sound that would outperform the Revenge solo. COS was supposed to be darker, dirtier and heavier than Revenge. Fortunately, I found common ground with this pedal and used it to play octaves. The Sunburst ESP Horizon guitar with a Floyd Rose typewriter performed very well on the recording. The sound was just right, considering that the lyrics of the song Jin had one foot in hell, because the track was called "Hate"!"
Avg price: $73.37

Dunlop Nylon Standard 0.73mm Guitar Picks

[V.G.]: How are your guitars typically set up? Do you set up guitars based on what each is used for?
[B.K.]: I usually use S.I.T. .010-.046 gauge strings. Some guitars behave better tuned down a half-step; the only two tunings on my record are standard and down a half-step. I didn’t fool with open tunings. “Fate” is standard tuning with dropped D, and so is “No Friend Of Mine,” the song with Corabi. Gene’s and Nick’s songs are a half-step down, as are most of the songs where I use a Floyd Rose. Les Pauls can be tuned to anything, and the PRS guitars also behave in any key.
You have to use guitars that behave in the studio, because time is money. If they don’t play well at home, don’t take them to the studio.
I used .012s on the Martin and the Gibson Dove [Acoustics]. The Gibson LG-1 probably has a custom set of .011s because I use that guitar for riffs.
[V.G.]: What type of picks do you prefer?
[B.K.]: They’re .73-mm gray nylon Dunlops with the grip. They’re kind of like the old Hercos. I don’t use anything else for guitar. For bass, I may use something a little heavier, or play with my fingers.
