About
Alias was a Canadian-American rock band that emerged in the late 1980s, known for their blend of hard rock, glam metal, and arena rock. Formed by ex-members of two successful bands, Sheriff and Heart, the lineup featured Steve DeMarchi (guitar, vocals), Freddy Curci (lead vocals), Roger Fisher (guitar), Steve Fossen (bass), and Michael Derosier (drums). Their 1990 self-titled debut album achieved commercial success, going gold in the United States and platinum in Canada, with the power ballad "More Than Words Can Say" reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100.
How to Sound Like Alias
Alias's sound is characterized by its polished, melodic rock tones, with an emphasis on catchy hooks and powerful vocal harmonies. The band's guitar work is notably clean yet robust, often featuring the warm, resonant tones of Gibson Les Paul Goldtop and the bright, cutting edge of a Fender Stratocaster. The use of effects like the Dunlop UV-1 Univibe adds a swirling, psychedelic texture that complements their arena-ready sound. The rhythm section, anchored by the solid bass lines of ESP Marco Mendoza LTD MM-4FM Bass, provides a driving force that supports the anthemic nature of their music, making it both accessible and impactful.
