Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Dunlop UV-1 Univibe.

User experience

  • Owners praise the Sabbadius ‘69 Tiny Vibe for its authentic sound, retaining it over several other high-end models.

    Source
  • Some users find the Univibe harsh into a clean amp without added drive, suggesting to follow it with dirt for a more liquid tone, akin to Robin Trower's style.

    Source
  • The Univibe's large size can be a limitation on pedalboards with limited space, despite its dedicated expression pedal being a praised feature.

    Source
  • Owners have reported that the Dunlop Univibe can sound overpowering when going direct to a mixing board, suggesting it should be mic'ed for best results.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • The TC Viscous Vibe is noted to achieve 95% of the DejaVibe’s tone at a third of the price.

    Source
  • The Grobert Effects Lux Vibe features A/B settings for volume, depth, rate, wet/dry, plus voice and feedback controls, offering extensive customization.

    Source

    Source
  • The Dunlop UV-1 Univibe replicates the rotating speaker effect using a similar optical mechanism, providing an authentic Hendrix sound without the vintage price tag.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The Vibe of the Gods pedal is recommended for its authentic Hendrix tone, though it can be noisy with fuzz pedals.

    Source
  • When using the Univibe in a clean amp setup, it's advised to simulate a cranked amp by placing an overdrive pedal post-vibe to achieve a classic vibe/distortion blend.

    Source
  • The Dunlop RotoVibe paired with a Tube Screamer and Telecaster into a Blues Jr. creates a magical tone, highlighting its synergy with specific setups.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Dry Bell Vibe Machine is often preferred over other options like the JHS Unicorn, noted for its superior sound quality.

    Source
  • The MXR Uni-Vibe is criticized for not being a true vibe, unlike the Dunlop UV-1, which is recommended for its authentic operation and sound quality.

    Source
  • The Voodoo Labs Micro Vibe, despite lacking a chorus setting, is praised for its simplicity and authentic fat effect, making it comparable to boutique units.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • The Ventura Vibe offers multiple effects (rotary, univibe, vibrato) in one pedal, providing budget-friendly versatility despite a slight volume drop.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • One user experienced power issues with the EHX Good Vibes, noting it's essential to use the included power supply rather than relying on external pedal power solutions.

Vibe version 1 is AMAZING!!!

Disclaimer: there are two versions of this pedal. Version No.1 doesn't have a 'Vintage / Modern switch'. This review is for this No.1 version

This vibe is amazing! Yes, there are better and more controllable vibes out there, but the overall tone and controls are just what a good vibe needs. It is transparant without losing that 'vintage-y' vibe the original Univibe had, with much less noise then the originals.

To me, this pedal is the go-to vibe for simple, small (compared to the bigger boxes out there / Voodoo Vibe) and good sounding pedal. And yes, go for the version No.1 when you have the choice! You won't regret it!
