I thought the jag body weighed more then the jazz master body, and it is less off set so its a shorter body and a bit shallower contour cut
and its not an issue for me but I've heard and read people who say that jazzmasters and jags are too big for them size wise, i feel like they were probably strat and tele players. I know jazzmasters and jags are little bigger than strats but i didn't feel like they were too big or anything

id say a mustang and not the new ones either the squire vintage modified or an original spec, jag maybe a little big for you frame wise
9yover 9 years ago
yea i see that, i could put like 420 blaze it to really look pop punk
9yover 9 years ago
i thought about pulling the Van McCann and putting black masking tape over it and writing something stupid on it like his tele that says "why" over the squire logo, i don't really care about branding or what the audience sees i just like the older font logo's and the serial number to me just looks out of place its not a thing that is a huge issue i just was wondering how tough it would be to wet sand it off then put on a new and clear coat it a few times

i don't know if i never will sell it but if i put the 60's pick ups in it then i wouldn't sell it anytime soon, i don'treally care for strats but this one just feels good, the neck is smooth but not slick and it holds tune really well even when doing a lot of tremolo picking, the pick ups are just a little too weak and i love fenders 60's pick ups, and if i did sell it id probably keep it local i have a few friends who told me they'd buy it when i told them i might sell it to get an american special tele(which didn't happen) and its already got some body were like a finish crack from hitting something and a small chip on the back of the headstock from my dogs knocking it over because i had it leaning against my amp
9yover 9 years ago
i have a 2004 mim strat and i don't like the headstock logo with the serial numbers, would softly sanding off the logo and putting on the modern black large logo or vintage spaghetti leave any noticeable marks to the headstock
i don't really care if it hurts the value i bought it used and it already had a bullet back cover and i don't plan on selling it or anything its set up really well with a nice neck i just want to put 60's pups on it

yea i was going to look for guitar ones i think both of you emphasized the guitar one was better

i don't have an issue with boss, i know a lot of people do, i just wont touch their tuners
but since you and jim both say bf-2 i feel like ill like it and ill sample some flangers, phasers and other modulation pedals
9yover 9 years ago
This is the exact response ive been needing, im not very familiar with multi effects but i wasnt opposed to fly rig, your response was more in my ball park, any specific flanger, phasers or eq you reccomend?

when i went i tried a Fano alt de facto jm6 and its the best guitar I've ever played, a few Nash's which felt just like fenders(i wonder why), a Guild Starfire iv and then a 66 mustang in dakota red which i wanted to buy couldnt afford, they had that and another 60's mustang for $1800. it was one of those that when i played it everything just felt right and i felt connected to it

i love cme thats where i got my acoustic but most their stuff gets pricey, but nothing beats a day of demoing boutique and vintage guitars
9yover 9 years ago
Ill have to see if there are any thatll be in Indy or chicago, sounds like it could be a gold mine if youre lucky
9yover 9 years ago
I got advice from a friend saying start now, so this year my plans amp and bass and next year is new guitar and then well see where it goes with pedals and recording equipment and such, id sell my acoustic because i dont plat it but what id sell it for would only afford me a cheaper acoustic to replace it
9yover 9 years ago
My gears pretty minimal for stuff i own, as of rn i have an electric, an acoustic, an amp and my pedals, i got rid of some stuff last year to get the acoustic i have but ive never needed gear till now because for the longest time i just played in my room or at my church, and there i just used other peoples stuff, and j still dont have a deluxe reverb, i need my own so thats got priority, im the epitomy of a broke college musician
This summer my budget will free up a little and i can hopefully get an amp and a bass, it sucks having to borrow because you cant take the stuff with you everywhere
9yover 9 years ago
I would get the bassman i Saw for 475ish rn if i had the money
9yover 9 years ago
That would work, ive been thinking of doing a jaguar build to get one in brown and black with a hard tail too look like the american special jazzmaster, im drooling thinking of matching jaguar and jag bass in mocha with black pickguards
9yover 9 years ago
Its all good but yea the mia jag is beast of a bass but they are no longer in production and i feel the price on them will go up since the people who play them love them
9yover 9 years ago
The Fender jaguar basses are a 34 inch full scale not short scale, and im talking about real jaguar bass not the squiers that are nothing like the Fenders, those piss me off, theres an MIJ with jazz bass pick ups and the MIA standard with PJ which is a dream machine
9yover 9 years ago
I want a standard jaguar bass because its pj and has a ton of switching but they are so expensive
9yover 9 years ago
I would but i dont care for squier necks if i didnt have to borrow my stuff id have a mim 50's p bass in black with the gold pickguard but i work part time and am a full tume student so a used mim standard is looking pretty nice as a future purchase
9yover 9 years ago
Yea for now ill have to settle for a ball park tone until i can afford a new bass, ive been living of borrowed gear and im between a mim jazz or p bass as my first personal bass, its just tough affording my own gear and paying for college while in school
9yover 9 years ago
Yea i was looking at bassmans i saw some 100w heads for 400-500
9yover 9 years ago
I didnt even think of it, mike dirnts live tone would be close to what im after
9yover 9 years ago
Im definitely a bass guitarist ive just never had to make my own rig for live, i always used our church's others bass players gear
9yover 9 years ago
Ive been playing bass live at my church for 2 years running a Lakland skyline through a really nice peavey, but none of its mine its our other bassists gear so i cant take it from our church to jam sessions and stuff so im building a cheap rig and i normally play modern surf punk/garage rock type stuff, i know i can run straight to amp/speakers and sound fine, but i want to be able to play with different sounds when were are messing around without getting too expensive.
And im a firm believer in pick bass
9yover 9 years ago
i was meaning garage rock as in like slightly hairy and a decent amount of oomph behind it like Cloud Nothings/Wavves or maybe black keys I'm not really sure where to go amp wise but thats an idea of tone i like
9yover 9 years ago
i just looked it up that thing looks dope i need to try it asap
9yover 9 years ago
ill definitely check it out as soon as possible sounds like it'll match my needs perfectly, especially not knowing exactly which direction i want to go tone wise
9yover 9 years ago
yea ill scrap the verb, I'm looking for a more versatile tone nothing special just sounds good and can fit a wider range of music, i don't want to wash out my tone or have something that just doesn't sound right
9yover 9 years ago
for tuner I've been eyeing a polytune for my guitar rig, but I've got no clue where to start for eq and i love ernie ball volume pedals, i feel like everyone uses them and the silent tuner out put on them is actually silent
9yover 9 years ago
i was taking the approach of a guitarist, for me a form of drive/dirt and reverb are my essentials but idk for bass, I'm just feeling the water for getting a decent cheap rig
9yover 9 years ago
I'm just looking for a good thumpy wish garage rock tone, i like the guy from DREAMERS tone live but ill probably take the route you're saying and try some pedals out
9yover 9 years ago
I'm needing advice on making a bass rig, id be running a jazz bass into a fender rumble and i just need a 3 or 4 pedal line up, i was thinking a fuzz and reverb for sure but i have no idea where to start when looking for bass pedal, i just need a versatile rig not looking for any specific tone
9yover 9 years ago
I think im gonna stick to savig for a black face deluxe reverb, i was about to be able to get it but i got blind sided by a school bill so it kinda hampered music budget this year but what can i say right when life starts going well bashes your head in with a bat
9yover 9 years ago
Do the current production hot rod deluxe iii have the same issue the i and ii had with cold solder and poor qc, all i see is bad quality control but the forums they are on are from like 2009
9yover 9 years ago
Update, i just saw the live bassist from The Black Keys uses a red mustang(not the new pj) I'm actually surprised how many bands i listen to use them, from FIDLAR to the Griswolds, you can definitely tell live they have a uniqueness to them but the dude with the black keys has some badass tone
9yover 9 years ago
Its faded sonic blue, i like it if its anything like the baja tele, its supposed to look faded or muted
9yover 9 years ago
yea they are but i like short scales i have a pretty small frame and the short scale gretsch was the perfect size i just didn't care for the sound of it or else id already have a bass
i like jazz and p basses but the price of the mustang pj has put it on my radar even tho id prefer the classic single pick up mustang bass nit sure how i feel about it being a pj, I've heard you have to have both pickups to get a solid tone and it sound kinda thin when just using one pickup, where as the old school mustangs like the one i tried have the unique pickup to them and have a certain, mojo, for lack of a better term
