let me know what you think i don't like having to wait but i wont be getting a bass till later this year, i still have an amp and maybe a second nice electric to get out the way

has anyone tried the new Mustang PJ, I'm thinking off getting one and the shop i went to said they didn't have any on hand were expecting to get them soon, the other basses I'm looking at are the mim standard Jazz bass and if i wait the mim 60's jazz bass

Mustangs are popular with girls and small handed folk. Shorter scale traditionally. Maybe something a bass player would notice as uncomfortable more readily.
i take this personally... jk I'm only 5'8 and have smaller hands

look at artists you like and try bass's similar to theirs
9yover 9 years ago
thats why i want one but for now I'm trying to get my own drri so i don't have to barrow one, but i want a hand wired ac30 with greenbacks
9yover 9 years ago
your gear gear on your page seems like it can handle that tone its just a matter of time to get it down
9yover 9 years ago
if you haven't watch sounds like by Andertons they build rigs to sound like artists for under 1500 quid
this is by far my favorite series on youtube and after the first season they really started to nail the tones of a lot of artists. this is general tone also so you could tweak it a lot but i feel the key to his tone is octave and hum buckers with a perfect amount of distortion

if i were you i would get a used Mex Standard Strat, i got mine, a 2004, for $300 from guitar center. You can find 2012's and newer for $350, other than wanting to put vintage voiced pick ups in it i couldnt ask for more, smooth neck, perfect weight not to heavy but not too light, and really resonate body, one of those where when you play it unplugged you can feel it.
as for vintage i haven't got any experience being I've never seen one until now so i can't say whether they are good or not but for that price if you want new instead of used Squire's Classic Vibes are an incredible steal they sound good the necks are just a bit slim for me
if you've played one and it speaks to you by all means get it, above is my 2 cents and i can't tell you what you prefer its all about what you want and what you like

seeing all the surf greens and bright blues makes me want to take out a loan and get a gretsch now
9yover 9 years ago
i only saw the green sparkle and surf green
jack whites gretsch collection is something of legends tho
9yover 9 years ago
my dream gretsch is a Duo Jet double cut and idk the color i just want a dark sparkle and all silver hard ware, i just want that 60's classic rock n roll machine thats got bling but still understated
9yover 9 years ago
i really like gretsch's sparkle tops and stuff like cadillac and georgia green I'm just not huge on them they have some models i like but overall just not my style cosmetically but they sound incredible
9yover 9 years ago
i played one that had them painted on it wasn't bad but the painted f holes were turn off

I really liked the Guild i played at CME one of the best non vintage guitars I've played but i haven't played any other clones than a few epiphone dots and 335's and some really bad ibanez artists which felt cheap and were really muddy
i haven't played any Yamahas or eastmans but ill keep my eyes out for them i know yamaha have some really good guitars and my local shop stocks them. and i like the solid body electromatics its just the gretsch pickups are so unique they kinda stray fro what I'm after.
I've looked at few lawsuit guitars and the ones I've seen I've read about a tone of issues but i haven't gotten my hands on anything like an old harmony, with me on a students budget tho i get limited and i don't have the patience to save up for a year and a half for a gibson

Does anyone have any experience with Hagstrom guitars, more specifically the Viking and Viking P, I'm looking for a semi hollow body and I've seen really good reviews, My first choice is a Guild Starfire IV but the Hagstrom caught my eye but they are pretty hard to find and no small shops carry them, the only one I've seen was a Swede at a Guitar Center, I'm looking for something that can give me really mellow rhythm tones without getting muddy
9yover 9 years ago
doesn't hurt to get it checked out by tech or friend if you don't know what to look for and have it repaired, like stated earlier a lot of problems tend to be an easy fix like when people say a guitar plays bad but all it needed was a good set up
9yover 9 years ago
other good cleans, but are rather expensive include Hiwatts, Milk Man, and Tone King, all three of these run up 1500+, with Hiwatt think The 1975 for cleans, Tone King is popular but i don't have a good idea about who uses them and then Milk Mans were used by John Mayer for a while. Although i don't have any experience with them, from what I've seen PRS has some pretty good amps and thats what John Mayer is using now

fender california series guitar cable
I personally use a vox coil for guitar to pedalboard then a fender tweed from my board to my amp, i hopefully soon will be switching to Lava's for each but like stated before match nickel/nickel and gold/gold and check some reviews if its overall good reviews than go for it

and for music magazine type stuff i like (The) Pitchfork and Under the Radar(blog)

i can honestly not say I've played a bad guitar when you factor in price, i kinda know what i will and wont like before i try something so normally when i get a guitar off a hanger or shelf i like them, also 90% of the time ill go towards fender, gibson, guild, gretsch & epi' etc I'm picky about aesthetics as well as feel and sound lol, and those help give an idea if my taste, i can say the two best guitars ive played are a Fano JM6 alt de facto and a 66 mustang and as for worst when i bought my acoustic i tried some ibanez's and was very disappointed, I've tried some mid range ibanez electrics and they were good but i didn't care for them, just not my flavor, and their acoustics were nothing close the the quality of the electrics.
9yover 9 years ago
Mine was a Squier Affinity Tele in butterscotch, gave it to a close friend who needed an electric when i got my MIM Stratocaster

i wish i could amp collect, I just want a couple versatile amps that have unique tones, ideally i want a vintage bluesbreaker, an old ac30, and collection wise id love a Milkman and a Tone King Metropolitan and all of these along with the best/most versatile amp imo the fender deluxe
9yover 9 years ago
yea ill heed your advice and go with a small build if we go that way i did a bit of research and it looks well beyond both of ours abilities, as of rn i don't need the amp I'm just looking for more flavor so this gives me something to look forward to
9yover 9 years ago
ill definitely look into it, if the moneys there this would be both of ours first amp build. i know he's tweaked amps but never actually done more than taking a fender deluxe and bypassing the reverb/trem into the normal channel. if its too big of a risk i may see if he wants to start with something like a champ or smaller amp and work our way to something bigger such as a bluesbreaker clone
9yover 9 years ago
I've looked at dr z and i really want one, and i wasn't planning on a new bluesbreaker either they don't sound like the originals like you said they are a tad harsher, the only reissues i feel that are up to par with their counterparts are fender's, my other option is my friend does a lot of building/modding on guitars and said if id take the risk we could try to build an amp and part it out so i can get the wattage, ohms, tubes and biases all to my liking, and with him being more knowledgeable on amps than i am its just a matter of price and whether it actually works how we plan
9yover 9 years ago
As I've said before I'm growing my arsenal, and I was wondering what a good cheaper alternative to the Marshall Bluesbreaker would be, I've heard the Bassbreakers are a good way to go but i feel they get a bit muddier than the Bluesbreaker.
9yover 9 years ago
ill definitely give it a look if i get the chance I'm always open to recommendations and trying something new
9yover 9 years ago
thats honestly tempting and i hope i don't give anyone pedalitis its very expensive to treat, hopefully right after the holiday season and once my new amp is here which should be January, ill be able to make a day and pick up a new fuzz and and try out those pedals
9yover 9 years ago
I know sweetwater does and theres are me a little over an hour from me, its just a matter of having a free day i can make a drive like that to check them out
9yover 9 years ago
i see where you're coming from. i on the other hand am all about a load of reverb and and delay an other effects, i've been getting into more stuff like foals, explosions in the sky and other bands that use a lot of effects on clean amps and our praise and worship group plays a lot of elevation and bethel who both have very layered, sythie sounds and guitarists who use a lot of ambient effects.
9yover 9 years ago
Another two I've been interested in is their Ghost Echo Reverb and Dispatch. I'm really liking the tones the guys from foals have and i saw Yannis their singer/lead guitarist has used Ghost Echo. They have that clean tone with heavy reverb/delay thats just about to break up similar to what I'm going for.
9yover 9 years ago
Im starting to grow my pedal board again and am looking for another reverb to go with my Holy Grail and I'm looking at the Earthquaker Devices Afterneath. My only issue is the price breaking that 200 dollar threshold and I'm just curious as to whether anyone has extensive experience with it or recommendations. I've listened to all the demos and feel it will be a good fit but i cannot find a store nearby that even stocks Earthquaker and on a side note my next two pedals are going to be a Jupiter Fuzz and Earthquaker Arrows if that helps give an idea of what my tastes are.

What I should have done when starting out...
I've only been playing few years and am by no means an expert, but my biggest advice is don't worry about feeling in rut eventually you'll have that revelation you've been looking for and be able to move on, i struggled so much with this my first year or so of playing and i put myself behind where i should be now as a muscician. Another thing, and i agree with jimmarchi1, is CAGED, this makes chord voicing and finding keys to play with much easier and was a huge breakthrough with me and also watch this video,https://youtu.be/YzvvTNuivkk when i learned this scale after about 6 months of playing it was a huge breakthrough for me and i use this shape a lot being its more emotive than the square/boxy scales
9yover 9 years ago
i might speaker swap now, I've not looked into it too much because I wasn't sure where to start, and volumes not an issue most places have good enough PA's to mic my amp to.
9yover 9 years ago
I'm trying to get a deluxe reverb to the point of just beginning to break up for a bit of drive and the OCD is a bit to hot, would an overdrive like a Tube screamer/soul food or a boost work better

New Fender Mustangs & Duo-Sonics
The new mustangs both sound and play amazingly(i want to try the hs duo) the 9.5 neck is really comfortable, however the only thing the have in common with the 65' is name the new mustangs are nothing close to the old ones, the 65' has vintage pickups, a 7.25" neck, vintage tuners, a poplar body, and vintage frets, the offset series is a 9.5" neck with medium jumbo frets, the single coil mustang has a maple fretboard, i believe they have alder bodies, hard tail brides and no rhythm circuitry, i personally prefer the 65' but the new ones are a better bang for your buck and more comfortable neck, in this case i gotta go with the cliche "play both before you buy" they are very different guitars
9yover 9 years ago
So for playing live I'm thinking after i get a 65' DRRI i may get a Super-Sonic 22 and run them side by side with an ABY for a layered clean and dirty together just wondering if anyone has done this before with the same amps or a similar set up.
