I need a tip for buying a new guitar

we were just talking gear for the 1975 lol, their lead guitarist uses them

Super sonic and deluxe reverb

the hotrods aren't reliable

that's why they're a dime a dozen and were so popular 500 bucks had a 40 watt amp and could be found everywhere

i know Adam used hiwatts and now for at least new stuff is running fender vibrolux's, but they also have a huge budget and their gear probably have new gear in the mix regularly

Super sonic and deluxe reverb

i liked the deluxe but you had to really push it, but I'm also the guy after the early 2000's college indie rock tone and they are a dime a dozen ill definitely look into the bassbreaker but ill probably wait till end of the year when theyve been on the market a while for their flaws to show their heads

I need a tip for buying a new guitar

for reverb id say the holy grail nano the guys in the 1975 use it but i have one and its simple and covers a lot of ground

I need a tip for buying a new guitar

the new mustangs are good just not the same as a traditional mustang

I need a tip for buying a new guitar

I'm waiting to see one show up on craigslist and ill probably use it as my first guitar i mod myself

Super sonic and deluxe reverb

i was thinking about trying the smaller head/cab combo I've been seeing them pop up more and more and the guys on andertons praise it, I'm just not sold when for the money of the big ones i can get a hot rod deville or a 70's bassman head and I've heard that about the bluesbreaker lol

i was thinking if i could find the small bassbreaker cheap enough tho i could replace my mustang( i use it as my bedroom amp) and give the the mustang to a friend who needs a better practice amp, the mustangs a fun little solid state with all the channels and onboard effects to dick around with

I need a tip for buying a new guitar

i say yes, but ill admit its pick ups tend to get a bit muddier quicker being its geared more towards shoe gaze and alternative but its got an adjust-o-metic bridge stock in it which is night and day, i just wish it was alder instead of basswood but its not a huge difference

and i feel the tele bridge sounds a lotstronger where as the strats neck pick up sounds a lot more rounded and present and fuller

9yabout 9 years ago

I need a tip for buying a new guitar

if i were you id shop used, a mexican stratocaster is insanely versatile and i can't praise it enough. I am not a stratocaster guy i like them but i like tele's and jazzmasters more but the stratocaster gets me a good The 1975 sound, the neck pickup can nail Jimmy's stuff for Foals, and the bridge gets some good poppy sounds it could definitely get you a close sound to bands you like most of them use a stratocasters

id also look at the J Mascis Jazzmaster by Squier its a solid guitar and sounds incredible for the price, and the upgraded bridge holds tune like a mother-f*cker, also invest in a good cheap reverb, delay and drive

9yabout 9 years ago

Super sonic and deluxe reverb

thats why il looking at the black face 65 my friend has 2 blackface and a silver face and this summer ill be getting a fuzz and looking for some chorus's a bigger reverb and other effects like maybe a pitch shifter and tremolo

Super sonic and deluxe reverb

i haven't tried one because i always use a hot rod, drri or ss to demo guitars on, i feel id like the bass breaker but not be in love with it like the 3 i mentioned but i didn't know about the issues that come up with the super sonic so that'll definitely play into it, the issues with the hot rod deluxe are why I've ruled that one out. ill probably go drri since i love pedals and look at the ss as my next one down the road although i do want a marshall head or ac30 after this amp as well

9yabout 9 years ago

Super sonic and deluxe reverb

I'm finally able to afford one of these two beasts I've been eyeing and i just want opinions I've played both and more than likely will get the Deluxe Reverb but i like the little bit of hair the super sonic has and the fact its a little less common

Also what are peoples general thoughts on the bass breaker

Just looking to pick people's minds not wanting someone to decide for me

How often to set-up and restring?

since this is on topic as well what do you guys prefer round or flat round, i want to try flats but haven't gotten around to them yet

9yabout 9 years ago

How often to set-up and restring?

i would say about every 6 months, i like the feeling of fresh strings and to me they sound better and i don't play bass a ton

What were some guitars you played that disappointed you?

i thought the casino came out while epiphone was still independent from gibson

im not a gibson/epi aficionado so i could easily be mistaken more of a fender guy

9yabout 9 years ago

Do I need an ABY pedal?

on a tangent what do you think about the h2o I've been lusting over one lately and just need to try it already once i get a day i can go to shop and fiddle around with stuff

9yabout 9 years ago

What were some guitars you played that disappointed you?

and thats not to discredit epiphone the casino, century and their other original models are very good guitars(i want a century or tele acoustasonic to get that between electric and acoustic tone) but their gibson copies like dots, firebirds and thunderbirds just don't compare

9yabout 9 years ago

What were some guitars you played that disappointed you?

even watching andirons video comparing the cheapest gibson LP and highest quality epiphone LP they the entire time were talking about he the epiphone was incredible but both admitted the cheap gibson was miles ahead in terms of playability.

the big point they made was the necks and that even with the binding and all the bells and whistles like block inlay, coil tapping etc that its still made in the far east. i believe they made a point about how taking a cheap guitar and putting high end pick ups and bling doesn't change the fact the tone wood and other factors are still cheap compared to a mia guitar with good hardware

9yabout 9 years ago

What were some guitars you played that disappointed you?

the only one that disappointed me was the 72 deluxe thin line tele, but that could of been the amp as well because i played the normal one(the walnut finish was beautiful) and it sounded amazing

CITES

too true, especially the people riding Japanese fenders, they are nice but they aren't as good as people claim when compared to current mia and mim's

9yover 9 years ago

CITES

fenders classic series line from the mex factory to me are better than the american standards

the nicest tele i played was a 52 avri, but for 2000 dollars i could get a mex and sound just as good, people always dog mexican fenders but they have really stepped up their game and with the money you save you can do what every mods you want to it if its still not perfect

9yover 9 years ago

Rosewood v. Maple Fretboards

we've been making improvements to our sound system and our bassist is running a lakeland skyline 44-01 ad it sounds amazing just not my flavor but we've never had that issue ours is more getting our eq in the monitors down

9yover 9 years ago

CITES

i never really looked into specs its almost the same as the 60's and i feel I'm one of the few people who thinks mim fenders arent the best fenders

9yover 9 years ago

CITES

lol your making me realize how pointless it is to import just for body binding

9yover 9 years ago

CITES

i was planning on b lying used for all but the 62 because its not on us markets, the 60's tele runs around 600, jazzmaster runs around 7-900 and the carbonate runs 500-1000 depending on the color, and whether its thin line or not because its discontinued and most people either loved or hated it

a giant thread about OD, Distortion and Fuzz!

this is the description i read from sweetwater

Want to know how it all works? Normally, tubes are used at high voltages and this restricts their use in battery-powered devices such as guitar effects pedals. Historically, attempts have been made to use tubes at low voltages in what has been dubbed "starvation" mode, but these circuits don't allow the tube to function in an acceptable manner. The tube simply cannot be biased to a satisfactory operating condition. Plus, the necessary heater (filament) current is too high to deliver acceptable battery life. Imagine how annoying it would be to have to change batteries every ten minutes during a gig! Here's what makes the COOLTRON system tick. The COOLTRON circuit basically operates by using two very special signal paths. The first is the "servo circuit," which provides the right conditions between the plate of the tube and the grid. This achieves controllable, stable parameters for the tube and provides the correct operating conditions for the tube to function as it would if run at a higher voltage. The second circuit is a patented power supply that provides a low voltage, low current supply to the heater elements in the tube. Since the tube is now running at such a reduced supply level, the anode current is much smaller than normal. This means that the amount of heat required at the cathode to achieve sufficient cathode current emission is much smaller - hence the ability to run the heaters at a lower level and for COOLTRON pedals to run for 20 hours on 4 x AA batteries! The COOLTRON system provides true tube sonic performance at very low voltage and at reduced heater current - ideal for inclusion into guitar effects pedals. COOLTRON guitar effects pedals offer valuable tube type sonic performance.

it runs a 12au7 tube in it

a giant thread about OD, Distortion and Fuzz!

Vox Cooltron Bulldog Distortion, insanely good true valve distortion but rather rare and unpopular, it has 2 channels, channel 1 is a vintage voiced with an almost held back feel like it wants to break loose but is being held back and is perfect for a distorted rhythm or a lead tone that you need an edge of break up type sound, channel 2 is like its Jekyll its a modern distortion sound thats very very very high output and can get screechy at times thats good for wanting a lot of sustain and power my only gripe is his pedal has such high treble it gets ear splitting highs on the high gain channel

ocd, where do i start this pedal for me os what good overdrive should be it covers a lot of ground and you can get some gnarly drive out of it and its got plenty of low end to satisfy what the bulldog can't.

on a tangent I'm kinda starting to play more new wave type music what would be a good drive for that, I'm thinking i may get a tube screamer or rat, but I'm open to options and I also like boutique pedals

Rosewood v. Maple Fretboards

lol, I'm thinking a used mim jazz bass sounds pretty good

I've seen a few ash deluxe going for under 400

if i wind up playing bass in a band then ill get one, its almost perfect i just wish it was only passive vs passive active, idk why i just don't care for active pick ups the music i play and listen to doesn't really need the added sustain of them

9yover 9 years ago

Rosewood v. Maple Fretboards

i personally don't feel it makes a difference tone wise maybe to some people with super human hearing, but to me its cosmetic

i love the look of a rosewood board because i really dig fenders 60's style so anything except black or blonde for me should get rosewood fretboard and for basses, p bass=maple, jazz bass=rosewood unless said jazz bass is the american elite in mystic black with a block inlay maple neck then, id do a lot of things to get that bass but i can't justify 2000 dollars on a bass when when I'm not even in a band and just play jam sessions and at church

9yover 9 years ago

CITES

this messes me up tho because one if the 4 guitars im thinking about getting next id have to import from a euro dealer

the 60's classic series tele, 60's classic series jazzmaster and cabronita telecaster are all good just tough to find used for a good price but the 62 mij tele reissue isnt on the us market(yet at least)

9yover 9 years ago

CITES

anyone read up on the new CITES regulation which will choke the import and export of rosewood including any guitar made after 1947 that had rosewood

i feel this is a bit extreme because even as a private seller you would need a, i believe, 75 dollar CITES certificate to ship to Canada or Mexico

i understand this law because the Chinese gutted rosewood forests but this also will apply to Cocobolo and Brazilian rosewood. I feel this is an unfair handicap to companies like Gibson or Fender, who was using sustainable Indian rosewood plantations/arbors which are now being bought up by Chinese guitar makers, couldn't the rainforest association or CITES just put a cap on Chinese importing and buying of rosewood
