Black Mass Electronics is a boutique pedal and pickup company based in Salem, Massachusetts, founded by Kaden Valdivieso. What began as a hobby building effects pedals in a spare bedroom turned into a full-time operation after the launch of the 1312 Distortion, a RAT-based pedal with multiple clipping modes and an 18V charge pump onboard. The 1312 gained a devoted following, with 50% of profits donated to humanitarian and social justice organizations — a fundraising effort that has raised over $50,000.

The lineup centers on dirt pedals with distinctive character. The First Herald is a fuzz based on the 1973 Ram's Head Big Muff circuit, expanded with six controls including a clipping selector and a boost stage. The Ceremonial Show of Force is an all-discrete overdrive that forgoes opamps and diode clipping in favor of cascading transistor gain stages, covering everything from low-gain breakup to blown-out saturation. The Kill Chain is a stripped-down one-knob fuzz built around a passive transformer-based pickup simulator, designed for aggression and simplicity. A dual-channel version of the 1312 is also available. Beyond pedals, Black Mass Electronics produces handwound guitar pickups made to order in the USA.
