Guitar Pedal X - News - Black Mass's 1312 V3 Rat-style Distortion is another worthy contender with 8 Great Clipping Options and 18V charge pump onboard

guitarpedalx.com

With an impressive array of eight clipping options and an 18V charge pump, the Black Mass 1312 Distortion v3 proves to be a formidable player in the Rat-style pedal game. Its unique configurations deliver rich, full-bodied tones that excite the ears, especially in the more adventurous settings like Quad Silicon and Asymmetrical MOSFET. However, the Original Silicon flavor feels somewhat lackluster compared to its more exhilarating counterparts. Despite this minor drawback, the 1312 offers excellent value at a competitive price, making it a worthy addition for players seeking versatility and punch in their sound arsenal.

Great RAT pedal with more versatility

This knocked the JAM Pedals Rattler off my board. It does what a RAT does but more options because of the 8 different clipping options. Because there’s an internal pump that takes the 9v input and bumps it up to 18, there’s more clarity and headroom than your typical ProCo RAT. (You can also flip a dip switch inside to turn the charge pump off if you want to just run it at 18v right from your power supply).

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that I would be happy buying this pedal on principle alone (1312 being the numeric equivalent of ACAB). I bought mine in the trans rights colorway.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

My two favorite clipping options are right at 3 o’clock (silicon) and down at 6 o’clock (germanium/silicon), but they’re all great.

Sounds great! Looks great! Supports good causes!

I would have bought this pedal no matter what it sounded like--because of its looks, its ACAB message, and because Black Mass donates a portion of its proceeds to BLM and trans organizations. But it turns out this pedal sounds great, too! I was always less of a distortion, more of a fuzz+overdrive person, but I'm loving having this on my board! All the different clipping options mean there's lots to explore.
