Founded in 1995 by Jeff Bober and Scot Sier in San Francisco, California, Budda Amplification is an American manufacturer of boutique guitar amplifiers and effects pedals. The company debuted its first amplifier, the 18-watt Class A/B Twinmaster Ten, at the 1996 NAMM show, where it received 65 orders despite not yet having the facilities to build them. The Twinmaster is widely credited with helping to ignite the low-wattage boutique amplifier movement that has shaped the guitar amp market. A 10th anniversary reissue of the Twinmaster Ten was later produced.
Budda expanded its amplifier lineup with the Superdrive series, offered in a range of higher wattage configurations, along with models like the Dual Stage and Stringmaster. The company also produces effects pedals, including the BudWah wah pedal and the Zenman and Phatman overdrive/distortion units. The brand is owned by Peavey Electronics, which acquired Budda in 2009. After the acquisition, original co-founder Jeff Bober went on to start EAST Amplification.
Budda amplifiers and pedals have found a home across a wide range of genres.
